Actor Swara Bhasker has spoken about an unsettling experience she says she encountered during the early stages of her career. While appearing on Rise and Fall Season 2, the actress recalled working on a film shortly after Tanu Weds Manu and described an interaction with the film’s director that made her uncomfortable.

Swara did not identify the director by name in the account. Her recollection, shared during a conversation with Priyanka Chahar Choudhary and Tej Pratap Yadav, focused on the power dynamics she experienced as a young actor working on a film where she was the female lead.

Swara Bhasker Recalls Director Sending Her Poetry

Swara said the incident happened around the time she was working on a major lead role following Tanu Weds Manu. According to the actress, the film involved a 56-day shoot and she was the heroine.

She recalled that the director initially began talking to her about the relationship between a filmmaker and an actor before their communication became more personal.

“This was just after Tanu Weds Manu. It was my big lead film. It was a 56-day shoot. I was the heroine in his film,” Swara said.

She added that the director told her that a filmmaker should love his actor and subsequently began sending her messages.

“First, he started explaining to me that, you know, a director should love his actor, this is how it should be. Then he started messaging me. He was sending me poetry,” she recalled.

She Questioned a Private Rehearsal for a Romantic Scene

Swara said the situation became more uncomfortable when the director suggested rehearsing a romantic sequence privately.

According to her account, she asked who would be present during the rehearsal. She said the director responded that the two of them could discuss the scene together.

“There was a love scene in a film, like a romantic song. He said we would rehearse this scene. I asked him, ‘Who all are there in this rehearsal?’ He said, ‘You and me, we’ll discuss,’” Swara recalled.

The actress said she immediately objected to the idea of rehearsing the scene alone with the director.

“I said, ‘No. You call the actor, you call the camera person. If it is a rehearsal, everyone should do it. Why should we do it alone?’” she said.

Swara Says She Was the Only Woman at the Guest House

The actress also described the circumstances at the guest house where the cast and crew were staying.

Swara said she was the only woman there and recalled returning to the guest house to find the director and cinematographer drinking.

“Where we were staying in the guest house, I was the only woman. I went inside and the director and cinematographer had already finished half a bottle and both were sitting and drinking,” she said.

Her account then moved to an incident that allegedly happened later that night.

Director Allegedly Came to Her Room

According to Swara, the director subsequently came to her room and knocked on her door. She said she realised that he was drunk when she opened the door.

The actress recalled that he then asked her for a hug.

“Can I get a hug?” the director allegedly asked, according to Swara’s recollection.

Swara said she refused and asked him to leave.

“I was like, ‘No. You cannot get a hug. Please, hug me? What happened? You just want to hug me?’ I said, ‘No, no, I can’t do it. Sir, please go. I am scared,’” she recalled.

Swara Bhasker Says the Experience Was Difficult

Reflecting on the incident, Swara suggested that the situation was particularly challenging because she was still establishing herself in the film industry.

As a relatively young actor working in an environment where senior members of a production held considerable professional authority, she described navigating such circumstances as difficult.

Her recollection also highlights the importance of boundaries between actors and other members of a film production, particularly when romantic scenes or private rehearsals are involved.

Swara has not identified the director in the account provided above, and no independent details about the individual have been established from her comments. The incident remains an account of her own experience as described on Rise and Fall Season 2.
