On The Great Indian Kapil Show, the couple revisited their courtship, including a memorable encounter involving Shahid’s green-haired Udta Punjab look.
Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput have looked back on a first meeting that lasted seven hours—and included an unexpected conversation about footwear.
Appearing on The Great Indian Kapil Show alongside Ishaan Khatter, the couple shared their differing perspectives on the encounter. Mira remembered enjoying Shahid’s company but being puzzled when he asked her to photograph his shoes, according to The Indian Express’s episode coverage.
A lengthy conversation, interrupted by a shoe demonstration
Mira recalled that they had already been talking for two or three hours when Shahid asked her to take out her phone. He then asked her to use the camera flash to demonstrate the shoes’ effect.
For Shahid, the footwear had a connection to being photographed by paparazzi. For Mira, who was unfamiliar with that part of his working life, the demonstration needed more explanation.
Shahid said he had initially wondered whether they would connect, given that she was 20 and he was 34. Their conversation nevertheless continued for hours without either noticing the time passing.
His Udta Punjab appearance surprised Mira’s father
Another memory involved Shahid visiting Mira’s family home in Delhi while working on Udta Punjab.
He still had the green hair associated with his character, Tommy Singh. Recalling her father opening the door, Shahid said: “He froze for a while, looking at me.”
The actor described his father-in-law warmly and presented the moment as a humorous recollection of their early acquaintance. His interpretation of what her father might have been thinking should not be confused with a statement from her father himself.
Mira’s reaction to his screen roles
Shahid also recalled watching Udta Punjab with Mira after their marriage. He said the intensity of his character left her unsettled.
When the discussion turned to Kabir Singh, however, he credited Mira with encouraging him to accept the role. The contrast added another perspective to their account: a reaction to one fictional character did not define her view of all his acting choices.
Courtship memories told in different voices
The anecdotes offered two versions of the same early relationship: Shahid remembered the intention behind his gestures, while Mira recalled how unexpected they appeared to someone outside the film industry.
Rather than a new revelation about their marriage, the segment was a retrospective conversation about meeting, getting acquainted and discovering each other’s worlds.
