Sobhita Dhulipala is taking on a physically demanding role in filmmaker Pa. Ranjith’s upcoming sports drama Vettuvam. The actor has undergone extensive physical training for the Mallakhamba-based film, learning traditional martial arts and performance techniques as part of her preparation.
According to an IANS report, Sobhita said the process significantly changed the way she understood her own physical abilities. Describing the demanding preparation, she said, “The preparation that went into this role blasted open my mind and body into new kinds of awareness.”
Sobhita Dhulipala Takes on Demanding Action Training
The physical requirements of Vettuvam meant that Sobhita and her co-stars had to prepare for sequences involving advanced movement and martial arts techniques.
Sobhita explained that some of the choreography required years of specialised practice. Although stunt doubles were involved during certain rehearsals, the cast decided to challenge themselves by performing the stunts personally.

For Sobhita, the demanding training became a collective experience rather than an individual challenge. She highlighted the camaraderie among the cast as an important part of getting through the physically intense preparation.
Training in Mallakhamba, Adi Murai and Surul
Sobhita’s preparation for Vettuvam involved training in multiple traditional physical and martial arts forms. These included Mallakhamba, Adi Murai and Surul.
Mallakhamba involves performing physically demanding movements around a pole or rope, while Adi Murai is a traditional martial art associated with southern India. Surul involves the use of a flexible, curling blade and requires considerable control and training.
The combination of these disciplines required Sobhita to develop strength, coordination, agility and body control for the film’s action sequences.
Reflecting on the experience, she also credited her male co-stars for supporting her throughout the challenging training process.

Sobhita Says the Experience Changed Her Physical Awareness
The actor’s comments suggest that the preparation for Vettuvam went beyond simply learning choreography for the camera. The rigorous training exposed her to physical disciplines that demanded sustained practice and a high degree of body awareness.
For a film built around action and traditional physical forms, the preparation has also allowed the cast to approach their performances with greater familiarity with the movements featured in the story.
