Chinmayi Says Dubbing for ‘Karuppu’ Brought Back Memories of ‘Leo’ Controversy

Singer and dubbing artist Chinmayi Sripada has spoken about the emotional impact of working on the film Karuppu, revealing that the experience reminded her of the controversy linked to her dubbing work in Leo.

After receiving appreciation for dubbing Trisha Krishnan’s role in Karuppu, Chinmayi shared on social media that she initially felt anxious about publicly revealing her involvement in the project.

“Strange I am readying myself saying this I was genuinely afraid this time, of sharing that I dubbed in Karuppu,” she wrote on X.

Chinmayi Reflects on Past Backlash

According to Chinmayi, her fears were connected to the criticism and controversy she faced during the release of Leo in 2023. She said she worried that her participation in Karuppu might negatively affect filmmaker RJ Balaji and those associated with the film.

The singer also revealed that certain scenes she dubbed in Karuppu triggered emotional memories connected to earlier experiences in the industry.

“I remember crying buckets dubbing a couple of scenes in the film,” Chinmayi shared, adding that the process felt emotionally overwhelming and brought back difficult memories from the past.

Despite her concerns, she expressed gratitude toward RJ Balaji for giving her the opportunity to work on the project.

Chinmayi Speaks About Industry Restrictions

In her statement, Chinmayi also referred to the professional challenges she has faced over the years, expressing hope that she and others facing restrictions in the industry would eventually be able to work freely without fear.

The singer has previously spoken publicly about her removal from the Tamil Dubbing Union in 2018 after she made allegations during the #MeToo movement against union president Radha Ravi.

Her return as Trisha Krishnan’s dubbing artist in Leo later became a major talking point in the Tamil film industry after reports stated that filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj and producer Lalit Kumar supported her involvement in multiple language versions of the film.
