Netflix is expanding its lineup of Indian military dramas with Operation Safed Sagar, a series inspired by the Indian Air Force’s role during the 1999 Kargil War. One of the people behind the project’s authenticity is Group Captain Tarun Kumar (T.K.) Singha (Retd.), whose military experience helped shape the production from its earliest stages.
The series, directed by Oni Sen, aims to present the challenges, courage and sacrifices of Indian Air Force personnel during one of the country’s most significant military operations.
A Veteran’s Vision Behind the Series
According to T.K. Singha, the idea for Operation Safed Sagar was first conceived in 2017. After receiving the necessary approvals from the Ministry of Defence, the project moved forward with Singha serving as its lead consultant.
Having served as the Defence Ministry’s spokesperson during the Kargil War, Singha brought first-hand knowledge of the conflict to the creative team, ensuring that operational details, military procedures and the overall narrative reflected historical realities as closely as possible.
