Mrunal Thakur on Asking for Work: “I Had to Create My Own Opportunities”

Actor Mrunal Thakur has spoken openly about building her career through persistence and direct outreach rather than industry connections. Reflecting on her early years, she shared that breaking into films without a cinematic background required consistent effort and courage.

“I Never Waited to Be Discovered”

In a recent interview, Mrunal said opportunities did not come easily at the beginning of her journey. Instead of waiting, she made conscious efforts to approach filmmakers and express her interest in working with them.

She recalled introducing herself directly to directors and requesting auditions or meetings. According to her, being proactive eventually helped her overcome hesitation and develop confidence in professional networking.

Approaching Aditya Dhar for Work

Mrunal revealed that one of the first directors she personally reached out to was Aditya Dhar. She remembered feeling unsure about how to ask for roles at the time but decided to take the initiative nonetheless.

Looking back, she considers that moment a defining step in her journey. Over time, she says expressing admiration for filmmakers and clearly communicating her ambitions became empowering rather than uncomfortable.

Proactive Choices Led to New Projects

Her upcoming romantic drama Do Deewane Seher Mein also stemmed from a similar initiative. After watching Mom, she conveyed her interest in collaborating with director Ravi Udyawar.

The film is directed by Ravi Udyawar and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It features Mrunal alongside Siddhant Chaturvedi and is scheduled for release on February 20.

Persistence as a Career Strategy

Mrunal believes that openly expressing interest in meaningful collaborations benefits both actors and filmmakers. She notes that when directors know an actor is genuinely invested in a project, it can positively influence creative synergy.

Today, with filmmakers across languages approaching her for roles, Mrunal credits her early persistence for shaping her path in the industry.
