Fahadh Faasil has addressed the growing buzz around the box-office performance of Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, cautioning that the film’s reported ₹300-crore-plus gross collection should not be confused with the amount earned by the individuals involved in the project.
The Malayalam film, starring Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju, has emerged as one of the notable theatrical successes of the Onam season. According to figures cited by Sacnilk, the film has crossed approximately ₹330 crore worldwide, with its India net collection reported at around ₹164.25 crore.
Fahadh, who is also associated with the film as a co-producer, recently explained that a film’s gross box-office figure does not represent the money that its producers, actors or other stakeholders personally receive.
Fahadh Faasil Explains What the ₹300 Crore Gross Means
Speaking to Cue Studio, Fahadh said that none of the people involved would take home even half of the ₹300-crore figure being discussed.
“None of us will get even half of this ₹300 crore that they are talking about. That is the gross collection.”
Rather than viewing the box-office performance as an individual achievement, Fahadh credited the entire team behind Bethlehem Kudumba Unit.
He added that the film’s success was something he felt particularly happy and proud about, describing it as a collective achievement involving director Girish AD, producers Shyam Pushkaran and Dileesh Pothan, and the wider team.
“I see this as a collective success of all of us. I don’t see it as my success alone,” Fahadh said.
Fahadh Reveals His Favourite Scene
Fahadh also spoke about a particular sequence from Bethlehem Kudumba Unit that stood out to him.
The actor-producer said his favourite was the recreation sequence based on a photograph of Mamitha Baiju’s character, Ashley. He recalled being particularly impressed by how the technique worked when he watched the finished film.
“In Bethlehem, the re-creation scene based on Mamitha’s photograph is my favourite. It worked tremendously for me when I saw it. Such techniques have not been used much in films. I liked it a lot.”
The sequence has therefore become one of the creative elements that Fahadh personally appreciated most about the film.
Bethlehem Kudumba Unit Continues Its Successful Run
Released on August 21, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit benefited from the Onam holiday period and went on to attract audiences in theatres.
The film centres on a young couple and the challenges surrounding their relationship, family dynamics and social expectations. Alongside Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju, the cast features Sangeeth Prathap, Vinay Forrt, Suresh Krishna, Bindu Panicker and Srinda, among others.
Girish AD directed the film, while the screenplay was written by Girish AD and Kiran Josey.
The project was produced by Bhavana Studios in association with Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran.
Bethlehem Kudumba Unit Now Streaming on JioHotstar
For audiences who missed the film during its theatrical run, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit is now available to watch digitally.
The movie began streaming on JioHotstar on October 2, giving viewers another opportunity to watch the Malayalam hit after its successful theatrical release.
While its reported ₹330-crore-plus worldwide gross has attracted considerable attention, Fahadh’s comments offer an important distinction: box-office gross is a measure of a film’s theatrical business, not the personal income received by its cast, producers or other contributors.
