Harleen Sethi believes Vikrant Massey has a special ability to bring sincerity and emotional depth to romantic stories. Reflecting on his performance in Musafir Cafe, the actress revealed that she shared this very thought with him when they met at the show’s premiere, where they watched the first two episodes together.
In an interview with hunterfly, Harleen spoke about the similarities between Musafir Cafe and Broken But Beautiful, the romantic drama that brought her and Vikrant together on screen in 2018. She also discussed the show’s complicated love triangle, the audience’s divided loyalties and the possibility of reuniting with Vikrant for another romantic project.
For fans who continue to remember the emotional connection between Sameera and Veer in Broken But Beautiful, her comments offer a reason to revisit the pair’s on-screen chemistry and look forward to what might come next.
Harleen Sethi Says Vikrant Massey Shines in Love Stories
Romance often works best when it reflects the uncertainties of real relationships rather than presenting love as a perfect fairytale. That emotional complexity is one reason Musafir Cafe has drawn comparisons with Broken But Beautiful.
In Musafir Cafe, Vikrant plays Chander, a man whose relationship with Sudha, portrayed by Vedika Pinto, leaves him confronting heartbreak, ambition and the possibility of beginning again. His journey eventually brings Preeti, played by Mahima Makwana, into his life.
The series explores the difficult choices people make when love and personal aspirations pull them in different directions. Its emotional themes have reminded viewers of the relationships explored in Broken But Beautiful, in which Vikrant played Veer and Harleen portrayed Sameera.
Harleen recalled meeting Vikrant at the premiere of Musafir Cafe and telling him how naturally he fits into romantic roles.
“When I met Vikrant at the premiere of Musafir Cafe and we watched two episodes there, I told him and Sheetal that you just do these romantic parts so well. Because I feel like he’s this boy next door who’s very relatable and who’s also very sincere. Who has a purity to him with which he loves. And that comes across in Broken as well as in Musafir Cafe. I told him you really shine in love stories and you really should do a lot more of them.”
Her praise highlights the quality that has helped Vikrant connect with audiences across romantic dramas: an understated style that makes his characters feel emotionally accessible rather than larger than life.
Musafir Cafe’s Love Triangle: Team Sudha or Team Preeti?
One of the biggest talking points surrounding Musafir Cafe is the choice between Sudha and Preeti. Both women play important roles in Chander’s life, but their relationships with him represent very different ideas of love, independence and moving forward.
Sudha is an independent divorce lawyer who prioritises her ambitions rather than settling down with Chander. Their separation leaves him heartbroken, but the experience also becomes a turning point that encourages him to pursue his dream of opening a café in the mountains.
Preeti enters his life at a different stage. An optimistic travel blogger, she supports Chander through a difficult period and helps him work towards building Musafir Cafe. Her feelings for him are complicated by the fact that he is still emotionally connected to his past.
The contrast between the two characters has encouraged viewers to debate which relationship is right for Chander. Yet Harleen believes the show’s strength lies in refusing to make the answer straightforward.
“I think the good part about that show is that the three of them were right in their own way. But also wrong in their own way. And when you can’t decide whether this character is doing the right thing or the wrong thing, and you’re with them sometimes and you’re not with them sometimes, and you want to make different choices for them, the audience is invested. That’s the beauty of the writing and that’s the beauty of the way they performed it. So I think that was the joy of that show, because I’ve loved all of them.”
Her perspective captures the appeal of the series. Instead of dividing its characters into clear heroes and villains, the story allows each person to make understandable choices while dealing with the consequences of those decisions.
This emotional ambiguity also echoes the appeal of Broken But Beautiful, where heartbreak, grief and the possibility of finding love again shaped the central relationship.
Could Harleen Sethi and Vikrant Massey Reunite on Screen?
Years after Broken But Beautiful premiered in November 2018, the prospect of seeing Harleen and Vikrant together again continues to interest fans of the romantic drama.
Both actors have explored different projects since their time on the show. Harleen has appeared in titles including Kohrra and Shaque: Trust No One, while Vikrant has continued to build his film career, including his acclaimed performance in 12th Fail.
According to Harleen, the idea of bringing the two actors together again has already been discussed with producer Ekta Kapoor.
“Ekta Kapoor has been wanting to, to be honest. You know, when she and I had a chat one time, she was like, ‘People want to see both of you together. We should do something.’ And yeah, I don’t know if it’s going to be Broken But Beautiful or another project. But let’s see. I really hope something happens. And I really hope that because it’ll also be very interesting to work with Vikrant again, because I worked with him and Broken released in November 2018.”
Her comments suggest that the possibility has been discussed, but they do not confirm that a reunion project is officially in development. Whether the actors return as Sameera and Veer or collaborate on an entirely new story remains uncertain.
For viewers who connected with their performances, however, the prospect of seeing them share the screen again is an appealing one.
Harleen Sethi Still Has a Soft Spot for Romance
Despite exploring different genres and characters throughout her career, Harleen remains enthusiastic about romantic storytelling.
When asked about the kind of project she would like to do, the actress made her preference clear, saying that romance would always remain her number-one choice.
She also joked about the possibility of starring in a romantic musical, offering a glimpse of the kind of project that could interest her in the future.
For now, there is no confirmed announcement of a new romantic drama featuring Harleen and Vikrant. Nevertheless, her appreciation for his performances in the genre, combined with her comments about a possible collaboration, has given fans plenty to discuss.
Both Broken But Beautiful and Musafir Cafe explore love without pretending that relationships are simple. Their characters make mistakes, carry emotional baggage and struggle to reconcile what they want with what life allows them to have.
Perhaps that is precisely why these stories continue to resonate: they recognise that love is not always about choosing the perfect person, but about understanding imperfect people and the decisions that shape their lives.
