Aamir Khan clears confusion about Ek Din and Saiyaara

Actor and producer Aamir Khan has addressed the growing speculation that the upcoming romantic drama Ek Din shares similarities with Saiyaara.

The film marks the Hindi debut of Sai Pallavi and also stars Junaid Khan in the lead role. Backed by Aamir Khan’s production banner, the movie is scheduled to release in theatres on May 1, 2026.

Trailer sparked comparisons online

The trailer for Ek Din was unveiled on March 11 and quickly generated discussion among viewers.

In one of the scenes, Meera—played by Sai Pallavi—tells Rohan, portrayed by Junaid Khan, that it is the most beautiful day of her life. He then replies that she will not remember it the next day.

This moment reminded many viewers of Saiyaara, starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, where the female lead struggles with memory loss due to Alzheimer’s disease.

Aamir Khan responds to the similarities

During a conversation with Variety India, Aamir Khan dismissed the comparisons and clarified that the two films are completely different.

He stated that Ek Din is not related in theme or storyline to Saiyaara. According to him, the upcoming film is designed as a classic love story, a genre that audiences have not seen frequently in recent years.

The story revolves around a shy young man who secretly admires a woman but lacks the courage to confess his feelings.

One day, he makes a wish at a fortune bell, hoping that he could experience being in love with her—even if it is just for a single day. His wish is unexpectedly granted, and the two spend a memorable day together.

However, as the day ends, the connection between them begins to fade, leaving viewers wondering whether their love will ultimately survive.

Film details and release date

Ek Din is directed by Sunil Pandey and is reportedly inspired by the 2016 Thai romantic drama One Day.

Parts of the film were shot in Japan to capture scenic winter landscapes and snowfall sequences, adding a visually distinctive backdrop to the story.

The film is slated for a theatrical release on May 1, 2026.
