Junglee Pictures’ courtroom drama Haq has been drawing attention for its compelling storytelling and strong performances, but one name that has stood out is Vartika Singh. The Miss Diva Universe 2019 winner makes her Bollywood debut with the film, sharing screen space with Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi, under the direction of Suparn Varma—and early reviews suggest she has made a confident first impression.

Reacting to the positive response, Vartika describes the experience as deeply emotional. “It’s been very heartwarming to read the reviews,” she says, adding that the appreciation has motivated her to push herself further. Being described as confident and natural on screen, especially in a debut role, feels particularly rewarding. “As an actor, you give a part of yourself to a character. When people see that effort and respond with faith, it feels very special.”

A Story Rooted in Truth and Quiet Strength

Set in the 1970s, Haq explores themes of justice, truth, and women finding their voice in a society that often silences them. Vartika plays Saira, a character she describes as gentle, emotionally rich, and deeply human. “She begins by accepting her circumstances, but gradually discovers her individuality,” Vartika explains, calling the role layered and emotionally moving.

What drew her to the film was the honesty of the writing and Saira’s understated strength. “She isn’t loud, but she carries depth and emotion. When a script touches your heart, you just know you have to do it,” she says.

Coming Full Circle in Lucknow

For Vartika, the journey was also personal. Originally from Lucknow, she shot her very first film in the same city. “It felt like coming home in the truest sense,” she shares. The familiar streets, language, and everyday sights brought comfort and authenticity to her performance. “Life really does bring you back to where you started—but with more purpose.”

Learning from the Best

Working with Suparn Varma, Yami Gautam, and Emraan Hashmi proved to be a valuable learning experience. Vartika praises Varma’s clarity and attention to detail, Yami’s focus and preparation, and Emraan’s calm, honest approach to acting. “I learned something from each of them—both as an actor and as a person,” she says.

One of the biggest surprises for her was how introspective acting turned out to be. “It’s not just about performing; it’s about observing, feeling, and understanding life differently,” she reflects.

From the Ramp to the Big Screen

Having already achieved success in the fashion world, Vartika sees her transition to acting as a journey of growth. “It’s been about learning, unlearning, and evolving,” she says, adding that acting allows for a deeper emotional expression. Looking back, she wishes she had been more present during every phase of her journey, acknowledging that even tough moments helped shape her.

Grounded by her family’s support, Vartika remains focused on growth rather than quick success. She values quiet moments at home to reset, believing balance is key to creativity.

As for what lies ahead, she is drawn to characters that evolve and stories that feel real and rooted. “Right now, I just want to be grateful for Haq,” she says. “For me, success is when your work makes someone feel something real.”
