Tania Bristhy Returns to Cinema After Eight Years With ‘Tribunal’

After an eight-year absence from the big screen, actor Tania Bristhy is preparing to return to cinema with Raihan Khan’s upcoming film ‘Tribunal’.

Bristhy, who made her film debut with Ghashphul in 2015, confirmed her involvement in the project while speaking to reporters at an event on Tuesday. Her return also gives her an opportunity to address why she spent so much of her career away from theatrical films.

‘The Small Screen Gave Me the Space to Grow’

According to Bristhy, her years away from cinema were not a departure from acting. Instead, she used that period to develop her skills through television, a medium she considers fundamental to her career.

She explained that cinema demands a different level of preparation because of the scale and expectations involved.

“Cinema is a large canvas and you need to be prepared to survive here,” Bristhy said, describing television as the space where she was able to build that preparation over several years.

She estimates that her journey of developing herself as an actor took around eight to 10 years, making her return to cinema a considered decision rather than a sudden comeback.

Although her involvement in film projects is expected to reduce the amount of time she can dedicate to television, Bristhy made it clear that she does not intend to abandon drama.

The actor said television audiences have played an important role in establishing her identity, and she sees no reason why working in films should require her to leave the small screen behind.

“The audience knows me because of drama,” she said, adding that she plans to work less frequently in television while becoming more selective about the projects she takes on.

Her comments underline a growing trend among Bangladeshi actors who are balancing television, cinema and streaming projects rather than treating the mediums as mutually exclusive.

Preparing for a Challenging Role in ‘Tribunal’

Bristhy has approached Tribunal with considerable preparation. The film is based on a true story and explores questions surrounding justice and morality, giving the actor a demanding emotional framework for her character.

As part of her preparation, Bristhy trained for a month under veteran actor Tariq Anam Khan. She also spent time speaking with patients in a hospital to gain a deeper understanding of the emotional circumstances connected to her role.

The preparation suggests that Bristhy is treating her return as more than simply another film assignment. She has been working to understand the psychological dimensions of the character before completing the shoot.

‘Tribunal’ Targets Next Eid Release

Directed by Raihan Khan, Tribunal is currently in production, with filming expected to conclude this month.

The production team is targeting next Eid for the film’s theatrical release, although the final release schedule will depend on the completion of post-production and other distribution arrangements.

For Bristhy, the project represents an important new phase after years of building her reputation primarily through television. Her decision to continue working in drama while returning to cinema also suggests that audiences may see her career expanding across multiple formats rather than moving away from television altogether.
