Sonakshi Sinha has shared a strange experience that once left her genuinely frightened. The actor recalled waking around 4 a.m. and feeling what seemed like someone lifting her while she was caught between sleep and wakefulness.
Speaking about her views on the supernatural during promotions for Nikita Roy, Sonakshi admitted that the incident made her question her earlier disbelief in ghosts.
She was quick to add, however, that she still does not know exactly what happened.
“I used to not believe. At all. But one day something very weird happened to me in my own house,” Sonakshi said in a conversation with Bollywood Hungama.

“I Just Froze”
Sonakshi described being in a state where she felt awake but was still physically asleep.
She remembered checking the time and noticing that it was around 4 a.m. She then felt pressure on her body, as though someone was trying to lift her.
“I suddenly felt some slight sort of pressure like somebody’s just picking me up,” she recalled.
The experience frightened her so much that she did not even open her eyes.

Rather than trying to find out what was happening, Sonakshi remained still until morning. She said she eventually opened her eyes when daylight began entering the room and immediately got up.
The actor has never claimed that the incident was definitely paranormal. Instead, she has left open the possibility that she may have been dreaming or experiencing a sleep-related phenomenon.

The uncertainty appears to be part of what made the experience so unsettling.
Sonakshi explained that she had been in a state where her mind felt awake even though she was still asleep. Such experiences can sometimes feel remarkably real, making it difficult for a person to distinguish between a dream and something happening physically.
For Sonakshi, there was no way to establish exactly what had happened that night.
She said the incident temporarily shook her previous belief that there was nothing supernatural to be afraid of. At the same time, because nothing similar happened afterwards, she eventually considered that it might have been a dream.
She Even Spoke to the “Visitor” the Next Night
The experience had clearly stayed with Sonakshi when she returned home the following night.
Because it was late again, she said she opened her door cautiously and even addressed whoever—or whatever—she imagined might have been responsible.
In a humorous account of the incident, Sonakshi said she essentially asked the mysterious presence not to frighten her again.
She jokingly suggested that if there was something that wanted to communicate with her, it should simply appear in her dreams and have a conversation instead.
According to Sonakshi, that unusual request appeared to work.
“After that nothing has happened,” she said.
‘Nikita Roy’ Put Her Horror Fears in Focus
The story came up while Sonakshi was promoting Nikita Roy, a thriller built around mystery and investigation.
The subject of fear and the supernatural was therefore particularly relevant to the film’s promotional conversations.
Despite being associated with a mystery-driven project, Sonakshi admitted that she is not particularly comfortable with horror movies.
In fact, she said she has avoided watching horror films since the strange experience at home.
Sonakshi Has a Simple Horror-Movie Strategy
When she does encounter a frightening scene, Sonakshi has developed her own way of dealing with it.
She joked that she watches scary moments with her eyes only partly open so that she can quickly shut them if something frightening happens.
Her reaction reflects just how uncomfortable she can be with conventional horror.
She also recalled watching a horror film with Zaheer and friends, admitting that she did not particularly enjoy the experience.
Was It Paranormal or a Sleep Experience?
Sonakshi has not presented her experience as proof of ghosts. Her own explanation remains uncertain: she felt awake, sensed physical pressure and could not move, but she also recognised that the experience occurred while she was between sleep and wakefulness.
Experiences involving an inability to move while waking or falling asleep can occur during sleep paralysis, sometimes accompanied by vivid sensations or perceptions. That does not establish what happened to Sonakshi, and she herself has not identified the incident as sleep paralysis.
What remains clear is that the experience felt completely real to her at the time.
For now, Sonakshi seems happy to leave the mystery unresolved—and perhaps keep her horror-movie viewing to a minimum.
Why Sonakshi Sinha’s Story Stands Out
The actor’s account is interesting precisely because she does not claim to have solved the mystery. She experienced something frightening, questioned whether it was supernatural, and eventually accepted that she might never know exactly what happened.
Her story also adds a personal dimension to conversations around Nikita Roy, where mystery and fear are central to the film’s world.
