Shalini Passi Says She Took English Classes And Learnt Slang For Six Months To “Fit In” Before Bollywood Wives Shoot

Reality TV breakout star Shalini Passi, who became widely loved after her appearance in Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives, has now revealed that her confident screen presence is actually the result of years of personal effort — not instant glamour.

In a recent chat with Humans of Bombay, Shalini said that she spent months sharpening her English and consciously trying to “sound cool” before facing the camera.

“I wanted to be cool”

She admitted she had gone through a phase where she felt she wasn’t modern enough for a Netflix-style reality show.

“I thought — now that I’m going to be on camera, I can’t look like someone from the Victorian era. I tried learning slang and speaking in a cooler tone,” she said.

Shalini shared she had been taking English language classes for nearly eight years, mainly because she used to stammer and struggled with pronouncing certain words.

Yet she still couldn’t force the “cool girl” act.

Friends told her not to do the show

Shalini also recalled that her close circle suggested she should not sign the show because she was “too simple” to survive the drama-driven space.
But today — they have all changed their mind.

Her calm personality and natural elegance are now a large part of her popularity.

She once considered plastic surgery

Passi also spoke about her long-running insecurities related to her face — especially her nose — and how she almost got plastic surgery in New York two decades ago.

But the surgeon made one sentence that changed her life.

“He said — I can fix it, but then it won’t be your face,” Shalini said.

That single statement convinced her to walk out of the clinic — and never look back.

Today, she says she proudly embraces the facial features that she inherited from her family — including her grandfather’s nose.
