A short dialogue clip from Shraddha Kapoor’s upcoming film Eetha has prompted criticism from some social media users, with comments questioning her expressions, vocal delivery and suitability for the role.
An October 31 report by Indiatimes documented a Reddit discussion about the scene. Some commenters felt the delivery needed greater intensity, while others suggested alternative casting choices, including Alia Bhatt and Vidya Balan. Those reactions represent individual opinions rather than a verdict on the film or its lead performance.
What are viewers questioning?
The discussion centres on whether Kapoor’s delivery conveys the emotion viewers expect from the dialogue. Critics in the reported thread questioned her facial expressions and the force of her voice, arguing that the scene called for a stronger sense of pride or defiance.
One commenter suggested that Alia Bhatt could have suited the part, referring to her performance in Gangubai Kathiawadi. Another proposed Vidya Balan as an alternative.
These are hypothetical casting preferences. They do not establish how either actor would have approached Eetha, nor do they demonstrate that the reaction reflects the wider audience.
A short scene offers limited context
An isolated excerpt can introduce a character, but it leaves out much of the information needed to assess a performance: the surrounding scenes, the character’s relationships and the emotional progression across the story.
Limited facial movement is not, by itself, evidence of ineffective acting. Restraint can be a deliberate choice. Whether that choice communicates the intended emotion depends on the scene and how it fits into the finished film.
The criticism is therefore best understood as an early response to promotional footage, rather than a review of Kapoor’s complete performance.
What is Eetha about?
Directed by Laxman Utekar, Eetha explores the world of Maharashtra’s Tamasha and Lavani performers. Its trailer was released on October 30.
Although the project has frequently been described as a Vithabai Narayangaonkar biopic, Utekar clarified at the trailer launch that it draws inspiration from selected incidents in a book about the celebrated performer’s life. That distinction makes “a drama inspired by Vithabai’s life” a more precise description than a definitive screen biography.
Kapoor has discussed the preparation behind the role
At the trailer launch, Kapoor spoke about learning Lavani and practising for the performance. She also described suffering a muscle tear during a dance sequence, which temporarily interrupted filming.
Utekar said the preparation included a week-long workshop with veteran Lavani dancer Shakuntala Nagarkar to help the team understand the form’s gestures and expressive detail.
That preparation provides useful production context, although audiences will ultimately assess how it translates to the screen.
Eetha release date and cast
Eetha is scheduled to reach cinemas on December 4, 2026. Alongside Kapoor, the announced cast includes Randeep Hooda, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Siddharth Jadhav. The film is produced by Dinesh Vijan, Laxman Utekar and Karishma Sharma, with music by Ajay–Atul.
