Samantha Ruth Prabhu Takes Part in Sacred Kalaa Aavarana Ritual Ahead of Motherhood

Samantha Ruth Prabhu has marked her journey towards motherhood with a deeply spiritual ceremony rooted in the Sri Vidya tradition. The actress recently took part in the sacred Kalaa Aavarana, also referred to as Sri Kalpam, a ritual centred on the divine feminine and the transformative experience of becoming a mother.

The ceremony focuses on the 94 kalas of Devi, understood within the tradition as manifestations or qualities of the divine feminine. Through sacred water, mantras and ritual practices, the ceremony is described as honouring and energising the seven chakras associated with the mother-to-be.

For Samantha, however, the experience appeared to go beyond the ritual itself. She was particularly moved by the way motherhood is represented within the ceremony—as a sacred and transformative stage in a woman’s life.

Samantha Says the Ritual Honours the Mother as Devi

Sharing her experience of the ceremony, Samantha highlighted the significance given to the woman carrying new life.

According to the actress, the mother-to-be is honoured as Devi herself, representing the sacred creative force through whom another life is taking form.

“It is a blessing for the child growing within her and also for the woman who is being born into a new version of herself,” Samantha shared.

The idea of motherhood as a process of transformation appeared to resonate strongly with the actress. Rather than focusing solely on the unborn child, the ritual also recognises the profound physical, emotional and spiritual transition experienced by the woman becoming a mother.

The Spiritual Meaning Behind Kalaa Aavarana

Kalaa Aavarana is described as a specialised practice within the Sri Vidya tradition. The ceremony invokes the divine feminine through ritual, mantra and sacred symbolism.

As part of the process, sacred water and mantras are used in connection with the seven chakras of the mother-to-be. The ritual is intended to cleanse and energise these centres while invoking the presence of divine consciousness.

Following the abhishekam, the mother-to-be is seated at the centre of the Sri Chakra Yantra.

The Sri Chakra is traditionally represented through nine aavaranas, or enclosures, which signify different stages of a spiritual journey. At its heart is the bindu, the central point associated with the source of creation and the presence of Lalita Tripurasundari within Sri Vidya worship.

Samantha Reflects on Experiencing the Sri Chakra Ceremony

The ceremony also includes the recitation of the Devi Khadgamaala, during which the names of deities and divine energies associated with the nine enclosures are chanted.

For Samantha, understanding the meaning behind what was being invoked made the experience particularly powerful.

She shared that there was something deeply moving about sitting within the sacred centre of the Sri Chakra and experiencing the ceremony while knowing what was being invoked for both herself and the baby.

The ritual therefore became an intimate spiritual experience, connecting the symbolism of the divine feminine with Samantha’s own transition into motherhood.

Samantha is expecting her first child with filmmaker and husband Raj Nidimoru.

The couple got married in December 2025 and announced their pregnancy in June 2026. They are expected to welcome their first child later this year.
