Roma Riaz, Pakistan’s representative at the upcoming Miss Universe 2025 pageant in Thailand, recently addressed online trolls who criticized her appearance, skin tone, and “Pakistani-ness.”
In a powerful video post, Riaz slammed derogatory comments while maintaining poise and dignity, saying she will not apologize for her looks or her skin color.
“I am Pakistani in my roots, in my values, and in every shade of my skin. My skin is the same colour as the women who built our homes, our families, and carried our nation in their hearts,” she stated confidently.
Standing Against Colorism and Narrow Beauty Standards
Riaz highlighted the issue of colorism in South Asia, emphasizing that fair skin is often wrongly equated with beauty. She proudly represents a generation of women who defy restrictive societal standards.
“Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but if you don’t have anything nice to say, please, for the sake of Pakistan’s reputation, don’t say anything,” Riaz said, switching briefly to Urdu.
The model stressed that her mission is to positively represent Pakistan on a global stage, and it is disheartening that she faces criticism from her own people.
