Priyanka Arul Mohan recalls challenges while filming Made in Korea in South Korea

Actress Priyanka Arul Mohan, who recently received appreciation for her performance in director Ra. Karthik’s film Made in Korea, has spoken about the challenges she faced during the international shoot.

In a conversation cited by IndyaStory, the actress revealed that food and unpredictable weather were the two biggest difficulties she experienced while filming the project in South Korea.

“Food was quite a problem,” says Priyanka

Priyanka shared that she spent over 40 days in Korea while shooting the film. During that period, finding suitable food became a challenge for her.

According to the actress, many local dishes included red meat, which made it difficult for her since she largely follows a vegetarian diet.

She explained that while she is mostly vegetarian, she has recently started including small portions of chicken in her meals, which helped her adjust during the shoot.

Unpredictable weather created filming challenges

Apart from food, the actress also pointed out that rapidly changing weather conditions made filming difficult at times.

She recalled that the weather could shift dramatically within the same day — starting with sunshine in the morning, followed by rain in the afternoon, and sometimes even snow by night. Such fluctuating conditions required the team to constantly adapt while shooting.

A memorable international collaboration

Despite the challenges, Priyanka described the experience as extremely rewarding. Made in Korea marks her first international collaboration, and she said she thoroughly enjoyed working with the Korean cast and crew.

The actress praised the professionalism of the Korean actors, noting that they prefer extensive rehearsals before the final take, which was a new experience for her.

She also fondly remembered bonding with the cast, including the Korean actress who played the grandmother in the film. According to Priyanka, the entire team was warm and welcoming, making her feel comfortable throughout the project.

Emotional connection with the film

Priyanka said she even experienced “withdrawal symptoms” after returning home once the shoot was completed, as she had formed strong connections with the team during the 40-day schedule.

Talking about her character, Shenba, she explained that the story follows a young woman from a small village in Tamil Nadu who has never seen the world beyond her surroundings.

Through Shenba’s journey, Priyanka felt as if she was discovering Korea alongside her character. She credited director Ra. Karthik and the film’s crew for helping her fully immerse herself in the role.

The actress also shared that she learned a Korean word during the shoot — “Kamsahamnida,” which means “Thank you.” She recalled that crew members would bow and say the phrase at the end of each shooting day.

For those unfamiliar, Made in Korea is produced by Sreenidhi Sagar of Rise East Entertainment and directed by Ra. Karthik. The duo previously collaborated on the feel-good film Nitham Oru Vaanam.

The new project features Priyanka Arul Mohan in the lead role and is set to premiere directly on Netflix on March 12.
