Parvathy Thiruvothu has dismissed speculation about her reported Instagram unfollowing of filmmaker Geetu Mohandas, saying there was no fallout behind the social media development. The actor also criticised narratives that attempt to create divisions between women in the film industry.

For months, social media speculation has surrounded the equation between Parvathy Thiruvothu and filmmaker Geetu Mohandas, after users noticed that the two were no longer following each other on Instagram.

Given their long-standing friendship and professional association, the development quickly became a topic of discussion among followers. However, Parvathy has now addressed the speculation directly, making it clear that she does not consider the Instagram development evidence of a personal dispute.

Parvathy says ‘nothing happened’

During a conversation with Galatta Plus, Parvathy was asked about reports surrounding her alleged decision to unfollow Geetu.

The actor dismissed the suggestion that the social media development represented a fallout.

“Nothing happened there. There’s nothing to make news out of it. I think there is a concerted effort to pit women against women. That’s something that I am not going to bite anymore,” Parvathy said.

Her response suggests that she does not want to participate in speculation based on social media activity, particularly when it is used to construct a narrative of conflict between two women.

Why WCC came up in the conversation

Parvathy also referred to the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), of which both she and Geetu have been associated.

The collective was established in Kerala to advocate for women working in the Malayalam film industry. Parvathy said the association has also resulted in women within the group being portrayed as rivals.

“Especially because of the WCC, it is very easy to pit us against each other and they would love nothing but for me to give about the follow-unfollow scenario,” she said.

She added that members of the collective have developed a deeper understanding of one another through their shared experiences.

“We have a far better understanding of each other within WCC, knowing how we have been thrown under the bus several times,” Parvathy added.

Her comments shift the focus away from Instagram activity and towards what she describes as a broader tendency to frame women in the industry against one another.

Parvathy does not want to discuss Toxic

The actor was also careful when asked about Geetu Mohandas’ Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, the Yash-led film that released in August.

Parvathy said she did not want to make comments that could affect the way audiences view the movie or connect its reception to any alleged interpersonal equation.

“For me to even make one statement right now… because that movie has to exist on its own right without anyone making a statement on it,” she said.

She added that Geetu’s film should be allowed to stand independently, without personal relationships or speculation becoming part of the conversation.

“I believe that if Geetu wants to make a movie she wants to make it that has to come out the way without any interpersonal dislike. I completely refuse to bite into it,” Parvathy said.

In doing so, the actor declined to give the social media speculation any further momentum.

Parvathy and Geetu have shared a long association

Parvathy and Geetu have known each other for several years and have been connected both personally and professionally.

Their association also came into public focus during the controversy surrounding Mammootty’s Kasaba in 2016.

At a discussion connected with the Women in Cinema Collective, Parvathy had criticised a dialogue in the film that she considered misogynistic. Her remarks triggered significant backlash and online trolling at the time.

Geetu was seated beside Parvathy during that discussion and encouraged her to identify the film she was referring to.

The episode became one of the moments associated with their public professional relationship, making later speculation about their social media activity more noticeable to followers.

What is Toxic about?

Directed and co-written by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups stars Yash in the lead.

The film was released in theatres on August 26, 2026 and is set against the world of organised crime, with Yash portraying Raya.

The cast includes Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth, among others.

The film had generated substantial anticipation before its release and marked Geetu Mohandas’ major entry into the Kannada commercial-film space.

Parvathy chooses not to fuel the speculation

With her latest comments, Parvathy has made her position clear: she does not want an Instagram follow-unfollow development to be treated as evidence of a feud with Geetu Mohandas.

More importantly, she has rejected the idea of allowing speculation around two women in the industry to overshadow their individual work.
