“TMKOC Gave Me So Much, But I Knew There Was More”: Nidhi Bhanushali Opens Up on Career Transition

Nidhi Bhanushali, who became a household name playing Sonu in the beloved television series Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC), has finally shared her heartfelt reasons for stepping away from the show after a successful seven-year run.

In a recent interview, Bhanushali revealed that her decision wasn’t sudden or impulsive — it was a conscious choice to pursue growth, freedom, and self-discovery beyond the studio walls.

“It Was a Calling, Not a Goodbye”

“Leaving TMKOC was one of the hardest yet most important decisions I’ve ever made,” Nidhi told Orbit Standard. “I had spent seven incredible years growing up on that set. But there came a moment when I felt this strong inner urge to explore what else life had to offer. It wasn’t just about leaving a show — it was about stepping into the unknown with courage.”

She emphasized that her departure wasn’t a rejection of her past, but rather a new chapter inspired by curiosity and change. “I wanted to study, travel, and experience life without the constraints of a 12-hour shoot day. That rhythm didn’t allow much room for personal growth,” she said.

On Staying Connected with the TMKOC Family

Nidhi still holds deep affection for the TMKOC team. “The people I met there are forever in my heart,” she said. “I’m especially close to Dilkhush didi (Roshan Bhabhi) and Ambika didi (Komal Bhabhi). We still meet whenever time allows. With Kush and Bhavya, we occasionally check in. Life is busy, but the bond stays strong.”

From TV to Music Videos: Exploring New Mediums

Post-TMKOC, Nidhi has been diving into creative ventures that align with her evolving artistic vision. She recently appeared in a soulful music video Saawariya by Iqlipse Nova, a project she calls “emotionally liberating.”

“The video didn’t require dialogue. It relied on movement, energy, and emotion — and that challenged me in the best way,” she shared. “It gave me space to express something deeper and subtler. Saawariya had stillness and soul — qualities I cherish.”

What’s Next for Nidhi Bhanushali?

Looking ahead, Nidhi is eager to take on projects that blend storytelling with performance and music. “I’m in a phase where I want my work to reflect who I am becoming,” she said. “Creative freedom is everything right now. Whether it’s short films, indie projects, or more music videos, I want to keep evolving.”

While she cherishes her time as Sonu, Nidhi is now focused on crafting new stories — her own, on her terms.
