Parents of Major Mohit Sharma Move Delhi HC to Stop Release of ‘Dhurandhar’

New Delhi, India – The parents of Ashoka Chakra awardee late Major Mohit Sharma have approached the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on the release of the upcoming film ‘Dhurandhar’, starring Ranveer Singh and directed by Aditya Dhar. The film is scheduled for release on December 5, 2025.

Reason for Petition

Major Mohit Sharma, who was martyred in 2009 during a counter-terrorism operation in Kupwara, is alleged by his parents to be depicted in the film without their consent or the necessary approvals from the Indian Army.

The petition argues that the film, based on its trailers and promotional material, appears to portray:

• The life and persona of Major Sharma
• His operations and martyrdom

The parents contend that such depiction violates their rights to privacy, dignity, and reputation, and infringes upon posthumous personality rights under Article 21 of the Constitution of India.

Concerns About Security and Accuracy

The petition highlights that several operations conducted by Major Sharma involved undercover work and human intelligence missions, some of which remain classified. They argue that cinematic representation of such operations could:

• Potentially compromise national security
• Provide narratives for adversaries to exploit

The petitioners also expressed concern over personal safety, stating that any misrepresentation or sensationalization of his operations may elevate threats against the family, who currently reside in a civilian neighborhood.
