Pune businessman Ketan Agarwal murder case: Police probe cricket link, deleted chats, and 2,000+ calls between accused

Pune police are expanding their investigation into the murder of businessman Ketan Agarwal, with new details emerging about the relationship between the two prime accused, Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary.

According to investigators, early connections between the accused are believed to have formed through cricket circles. Police sources state that Siya Goyal was first introduced to Chetan Chaudhary through her elder brother, Sahil Goyal, who played cricket with him regularly. Siya is also reported to have accompanied her brother to matches, where she gradually came in contact with Chetan.

Officials further said the two allegedly reconnected during a Diwali gathering in 2025 hosted by a mutual acquaintance. After this meeting, their communication reportedly increased significantly.

Over 2,000 calls under scrutiny

Call Detail Records (CDRs) reviewed by investigators indicate that Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary exchanged more than 2,000 phone calls since January this year. The total duration of these conversations is reported to be around 238 hours, raising questions about the depth and nature of their association.

Police have also questioned Sahil Goyal for nearly 10 hours regarding his sister’s interactions with Chetan Chaudhary. He was released later the same day after detailed questioning.

Digital evidence and deleted chats

A key focus of the investigation is now digital forensic material recovered from the accused persons’ devices. According to police sources, WhatsApp messages, Instagram chats, and other communication records were allegedly deleted around the time of the incident near Lohagad Fort.

Investigators further claim that attempts were made to erase even residual data, including items from recycle bins and backup folders. Forensic teams are now working to retrieve deleted content and reconstruct a complete communication timeline.

Meeting before the incident under scanner

Another critical angle being examined is a meeting between Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary on June 17, just a day before Ketan Agarwal’s death. The two reportedly met at a café in Pune’s Lullanagar area, where they spent about an hour together between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm.

Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage, location data, and digital records to determine whether any discussion relevant to the alleged crime took place during this meeting.

Investigation continues

Police say the case is being examined from multiple angles, including personal relationships, digital communication patterns, and last-known interactions before the incident. Forensic analysis of recovered data is expected to play a crucial role in establishing a clearer sequence of events.
