The actor said a change in distance during a rehearsed scene led to unintended contact, leaving him panicked.
Kamlesh Sawant has recalled accidentally striking co-star Ishita Dutta during a slap sequence associated with the Drishyam films.
Speaking to SCREEN, Sawant said the actors had rehearsed the movement with a set distance between them. During the final take, that distance changed, and his hand made contact with Dutta’s face.
Ishita’s response reassured him
According to Sawant, director Nishikant Kamat reacted angrily after the incident. Dutta intervened, explaining that the spacing had changed while Sawant had followed the rehearsed movement.
Sawant remembered feeling alarmed and appreciated her speaking up. “I’d turned red out of panic,” he told SCREEN.
The account describes unintended contact during a planned action sequence. It does not establish that a real slap was requested or that Dutta was deliberately struck.
The report contains a film-title inconsistency
The published interview associates the anecdote with Drishyam 2, but Sawant’s quoted recollection names Kamat.
Kamat directed the Hindi Drishyam, released in 2015. Abhishek Pathak directed its 2022 sequel. Until the original interview or a clarification resolves that discrepancy, identifying the accident specifically as a Drishyam 2 incident would be unreliable.
Sawant also remembers Ajay Devgn’s encouragement
In the same conversation, Sawant recalled Devgn approaching him during filming and remembering their earlier work together in Khakee.
He described the interaction as meaningful, particularly because he had assumed Devgn would be occupied preparing for his own scenes. Sawant’s wider reflections focused on the respect he had received from leading actors despite having smaller roles.
The interview offers his retrospective account of those working relationships. The accidental-contact anecdote remains his recollection, rather than a separately documented production incident.
