Actor-producer Jackky Bhagnani and Rakul Preet Singh, who tied the knot in Goa in 2024 after falling in love during the lockdown, recently opened up about their relationship and shared an unconventional take on marriage.

In a candid conversation, Jackky described their bond as a “situationship,” despite being fully committed to each other. He explained that both he and Rakul entered the relationship with emotional clarity and a strong sense of individuality.

“We both understood that we are not in our early 20s anymore. We have experienced life’s highs and lows. I am happy as an individual, and I’m not looking for someone to fill a void. The same applies to her. Together, we are simply happier,” Jackky said.

Rakul echoed his thoughts, highlighting that their relationship is not built on dependency. She noted that personal independence remains important, even within marriage.

“It’s not about relying on each other for everything. If I want to travel, I can do it myself. There are bigger things in life to focus on and discuss,” she shared.

Talking about modern relationship trends, Jackky said that many people today prefer situationships because they come with fewer expectations and restrictions. He believes their marriage reflects a similar mindset.

“We are married, but it feels like a situationship in a positive way. We are exclusive, of course, but the key is that we can talk about anything openly,” he added.

He also spoke about the importance of transparency in their relationship, explaining that there are no secrets between them. This openness allows both of them to feel comfortable and unrestricted.

Rakul summed up their dynamic by calling it a strong friendship at its core. Jackky added that this understanding gives them the freedom to maintain their individuality, whether it’s spending time with friends or pursuing personal interests.

Addressing traditional expectations, Rakul pointed out that many marriages have historically placed more responsibility on women to adjust. She made it clear that their relationship is built on equality.

“In many cases, women have adapted around their partners’ lives for years. That’s not how we function. We are equals in every sense,” she said.

She further added that marriage has not limited them in any way, but instead strengthened their bond. “We genuinely look forward to spending time together,” she shared.

Jackky also questioned the idea that opposites attract, suggesting that long-term compatibility depends on shared values and thinking.

“In the long run, differences in values and mindset can create distance. That’s when people start holding back from each other,” he explained.
