Huma Qureshi Opens Up on Body Shaming: “Negative Comments Really Affected My Confidence”

Actor Huma Qureshi has spoken candidly about the emotional impact of negative comments on her appearance during the early phase of her career, revealing how online criticism once affected her confidence and made her withdraw socially.

Huma recently appeared on the talk show Double Date, hosted by Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi, alongside her brother and actor Saqib Saleem. During the conversation, she reflected on her experience with trolling and body shaming.

“After my second film, I started seeing a lot of negative comments about my looks. It really affected me, and I became quite withdrawn for a while. When you are constantly judged, it starts to impact your confidence,” she shared.

The actress admitted that the pressure of public scrutiny took an emotional toll but also pushed her toward self-reflection and healing. Over time, she said, she learned to disconnect from external noise and focus on her mental well-being.

“I realised I had to cut out the noise and focus on myself. I started meditating, journaling, and even went for therapy. Slowly, I became more secure about who I am and how I look,” she said.

Huma added that her mindset has changed significantly over the years. “Today, I can even laugh at myself and take things in a more positive way. I feel much more confident and comfortable in my own skin now,” she said.

Huma Qureshi’s Career Journey

Huma Qureshi made her debut in 2012 with Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur, earning widespread critical acclaim. She later appeared in Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana and went on to deliver notable performances in films such as Dedh Ishqiya, Badlapur, Jolly LLB 2, Ek Thi Daayan, and Monica O My Darling.

She expanded her career internationally with a supporting role in Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead (2021). In the same year, she starred in the acclaimed political drama series Maharani, which has since continued for multiple seasons and strengthened her position in long-form storytelling.

More recently, she has been seen in Delhi Crime Season 3, further showcasing her versatility in intense and layered roles.

Huma will next appear in Geetu Mohandas’ upcoming film Toxic, starring Yash in the lead role, alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Rukmini Vasanth, and Tara Sutaria. The film is scheduled for release later this year.
