Deepika Padukone Passes on The White Lotus After Declining Audition: Report

Speculation had been growing online that Deepika Padukone would feature in the acclaimed series The White Lotus, created by Mike White. Many believed the project would mark her return to Hollywood following her international debut in xXx: Return of Xander Cage, where she starred alongside Vin Diesel.

However, recent reports indicate that Deepika is no longer in consideration for the Emmy Award-winning black comedy-drama.

Audition Requirement Led to Exit

According to a report by Variety India, an industry source stated that while the makers were interested in approaching Deepika, the audition process became a key issue. Auditions are reportedly mandatory for casting in The White Lotus, and the production team was keen on screen tests before finalising roles.

The source claimed that Deepika was not inclined to audition, which ultimately resulted in the opportunity not moving forward.

The report also noted that this was not the first time the show’s team had explored the possibility of casting her. During the third season, discussions were said to have taken place, but scheduling constraints due to her pregnancy prevented the collaboration. With a fourth season currently in development, the conversation was reportedly revisited, though it did not materialise again.

Recent Project Exits

Over the past year, Deepika has stepped away from several high-profile films. She was previously associated with Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, and the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, helmed by Nag Ashwin.

Her reported exit from Spirit generated significant attention, with industry buzz suggesting differences over work schedules, remuneration, and profit-sharing terms. Similarly, despite receiving appreciation for her role in Kalki 2898 AD, reports indicate she may not be part of its sequel due to comparable contractual discussions.

“Choices That Feel Honest”

In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Deepika reflected on her evolving approach to career decisions. She emphasised that authenticity now guides her choices more than commercial scale.

She shared that financial incentives alone are not decisive, and that belief in the people involved or the message of a project plays a critical role. She also acknowledged that clarity in decision-making has come with experience, and that growth naturally involves reassessing past choices.

What’s Next for Deepika?

Looking ahead, Deepika will next appear in King, directed by Siddharth Anand. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Suhana Khan, and is scheduled for a December 2026 release.

She is also collaborating with director Atlee on an upcoming project that features Allu Arjun in the lead.

While The White Lotus may no longer be on her slate, Deepika’s upcoming lineup suggests that she continues to shape her career on her own terms.
