The HGTV personality dressed as Vivian Ward, pairing a white-and-blue cut-out dress with thigh-high boots and a blonde bob wig.
Christina Haack turned to Pretty Woman for her Halloween costume, recreating one of Julia Roberts’ recognisable looks from the 1990 film.
The television personality shared a costume-reveal video on Instagram on October 31, according to EntertainmentNow. Her inspiration was Vivian Ward, the character Roberts played opposite Richard Gere.
The details behind the costume
According to HELLO!’s report supplied for this article, Haack wore a white ribbed top connected to a blue miniskirt by a silver ring at the waist.
A blonde bob wig, black thigh-high boots and a red jacket completed the film reference. Together, the pieces recreated Vivian’s early appearance rather than the red evening gown also associated with the character.
The costume’s effect came from assembling several recognisable details: the contrasting colours, ring-front silhouette, short wig and boots.
Christopher LaRocca joins the film reference
HELLO!’s supplied account also described Christopher LaRocca wearing a grey suit and tie as Edward Lewis, Gere’s character.
His tailored outfit complemented Haack’s costume, making the pair’s reference to the romantic comedy more explicit.
The report said Haack’s video included a recreation of Vivian getting ready. The original Instagram clip was not independently reviewed for this article.
A film-inspired Halloween transformation
Haack’s costume illustrates how a screen character can be conveyed through a particular combination of clothing and accessories.
The outfit does not need to reproduce every detail of the original scene to communicate its reference. Here, the dress and wig establish the character, while LaRocca’s suit supplies the second half of the pairing.
The appearance was a Halloween recreation, rather than an announcement of a film project or an association with Roberts.
