Nidhhi Agerwal Says Tamil Cinema Is the Right Place for Meaningful Roles: “I’m Waiting for the Right Film”

Actor Nidhhi Agerwal says she is no longer interested in signing films simply to stay busy. Instead, she is looking for stories that allow her to grow as a performer, and she believes Tamil cinema offers some of the strongest opportunities for meaningful characters.

Speaking during a recent interaction in Chennai, Nidhhi reflected on her journey in the industry, her evolving approach to choosing projects, and why she is taking her time before returning to Tamil films.

Waiting for the Right Opportunity

Although Nidhhi has appeared in Tamil films including Eeswaran, Bhoomi, and Kalaga Thalaivan, she has not taken up another Tamil project since 2022.

The actor said she has never believed in rushing major decisions, whether in her career or personal life. She explained that she now prefers to work with filmmakers whose stories offer substantial roles instead of simply increasing the number of films in her filmography.

According to Nidhhi, she is currently in discussions for a few Tamil projects but has not made a final decision.

Directors Matter More Than Ever

Reflecting on her early years in cinema, Nidhhi said entering the industry without film connections meant she accepted the best opportunities available at the time.

Now, with more experience behind her, she feels she can be selective about the characters she portrays.

She explained that the director has become the most important factor in her decision-making process, describing filmmaking as a creative vision shaped by one person from the script stage to the final edit.

For her, confidence in the filmmaker is just as important as confidence in the story itself.

Looking Beyond Commercial Cinema

After working in large-scale commercial productions such as Hari Hara Veera Mallu and The Raja Saab, Nidhhi says she hopes audiences will increasingly recognize her acting abilities.

While she remains enthusiastic about mainstream entertainers, she also wants to explore independent cinema, festival films, period dramas, science fiction, and action-oriented stories that allow her to experiment with different performances.

She added that action films particularly appeal to her and believes it is a genre where she has much more to offer.

Chennai Still Feels Like Home

Despite spending most of her recent schedule working in Telugu and Hindi cinema, Nidhhi admitted she misses working in Tamil films and speaking the language regularly.

She noted that today’s actors frequently work across multiple film industries, making it easier to stay connected with audiences nationwide, but she still looks forward to returning to Chennai for the right project.

Staying Private Despite Public Life

Although she remains active in the public eye, Nidhhi described herself as someone who rarely reveals her emotions publicly.

She shared that even during difficult moments, she prefers to maintain a positive outlook rather than openly discussing personal struggles, explaining that she is naturally sensitive and cautious about public judgment.

Busy Schedule and Upcoming Projects

Nidhhi continues to maintain a demanding work schedule across multiple languages.

Among her upcoming releases is Mirai, where her character is expected to play a larger role in the franchise’s second installment. She is also part of the Hindi psychological thriller The Influencer, an adaptation of the Korean film Drive.

The actor also said she is open to auditioning for filmmakers she respects, believing that auditions can help directors determine whether an actor is the right fit for a specific character.
