For Bollywood’s celebrity mothers, personalised jewellery is becoming more than a fashion statement. From Rani Mukerji wearing Adira’s name at the National Film Awards to Deepika Padukone carrying a delicate “Dua” pendant, these tiny pieces turn motherhood into something deeply personal—and beautifully wearable.

Celebrity jewellery is usually designed to be noticed. Diamonds catch the light, gemstones add colour and statement pieces complete an outfit.

But some of the most meaningful jewellery worn by Bollywood’s mothers is deliberately understated.

A tiny name on a chain. A pendant carrying a child’s initials. A necklace that simply says “Mama”.

For several Bollywood mothers, jewellery has become a way of keeping their children physically close, even while they are attending premieres, award ceremonies, concerts or travelling for work.

The sentiment has found its way into fashion in remarkably different forms, with Rani Mukerji, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Kiara Advani each offering their own interpretation of personalised motherhood jewellery.

Rani Mukerji carried Adira’s name to the National Film Awards

Perhaps the most poignant example came from Rani Mukerji at the 71st National Film Awards in 2025.

The actor attended the ceremony to receive her first National Award for Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. She wore an elegant Sabyasachi saree, but it was a much smaller detail around her neck that carried the most personal significance.

Rani wore a delicate gold necklace featuring the name of her daughter, Adira.

The choice had an emotional reason behind it.

Adira had wanted to accompany her mother to the ceremony but could not attend because children below the permitted age were not allowed at the venue. Rani subsequently explained that wearing her daughter’s name allowed her to keep her “lucky charm” close on a day she had hoped they could experience together.

It transformed a simple piece of personalised jewellery into something much more meaningful.

The necklace wasn’t simply another accessory completing an award-show outfit. It represented the person Rani wished could have been beside her.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas makes Malti Marie part of her jewellery wardrobe

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has also incorporated her daughter Malti Marie into her personal style through jewellery.

The actor has been seen wearing a beaded choker featuring her daughter’s name, including during a Jonas Brothers concert. She has also been photographed wearing the personalised piece during a visit to Mumbai.

Unlike a conventional luxury statement necklace, the design carries a very specific personal reference.

The name itself becomes the centrepiece.

It is an approach that reflects how personalised jewellery can function simultaneously as an accessory and a keepsake. For Priyanka, Malti’s name becomes something she can wear regardless of whether she is dressed for an informal outing or a high-profile appearance.

Deepika Padukone keeps Dua close with a delicate pendant

Deepika Padukone has opted for a quieter interpretation of the idea.

The actor has been spotted wearing a custom gold necklace featuring her daughter Dua’s name.

The pendant is small and understated, but that is precisely what gives it its appeal.

Rather than turning motherhood into an overt fashion statement, the necklace allows the sentiment to remain intimate. It can sit naturally alongside the rest of Deepika’s jewellery while still carrying an unmistakably personal meaning.

The look also demonstrates the versatility of name jewellery. It doesn’t have to be oversized, heavily embellished or designed to attract immediate attention.

Sometimes, a tiny word is enough.

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja turns Vayu’s name into a fashion accessory

Then there is Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, whose approach feels particularly fitting given her reputation for experimental and fashion-forward styling.

The actor has been photographed wearing a pendant bearing the name of her son, Vayu.

Rather than separating the sentimental piece from her usual jewellery choices, Sonam incorporated it into her overall styling.

That is perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of this emerging celebrity jewellery language. A piece carrying enormous emotional value does not necessarily need to look traditional or overtly sentimental.

It can be layered, styled and worn just like any other contemporary jewellery piece.

Kiara Advani gives the trend a different meaning

Kiara Advani offers another interpretation of the same emotional idea.

Following the birth of her daughter Sarayaah, Kiara was seen wearing a necklace that read “Mama.”

Unlike the jewellery worn by Rani, Priyanka, Deepika and Sonam, it doesn’t feature the child’s name.

Instead, it celebrates the identity that motherhood has given the wearer herself.

The distinction is subtle but significant.

“Dua”, “Adira”, “Malti” and “Vayu” identify the people these mothers are celebrating. “Mama” describes the relationship itself.

Together, the pieces show how personalised jewellery can tell different stories without requiring elaborate explanations.

When jewellery becomes a keepsake

There is a fundamental difference between personalised jewellery and ordinary fashion accessories.

A necklace selected because it matches an outfit can be replaced when the season changes. A child’s name carries a meaning that exists independently of fashion.

That is what makes these celebrity examples particularly compelling.

The pieces may be made from gold, beads or other decorative materials, but their real value comes from what they represent.

A name becomes a reminder.

A pendant becomes a keepsake.

A necklace becomes a way of carrying a loved one through an ordinary day.

Personalised jewellery is finding a place in modern luxury

The appeal of name jewellery also fits neatly into the wider movement towards personalisation in fashion.

Consumers increasingly want jewellery that says something about them rather than simply displaying a particular level of luxury. Initials, birthstones, dates, names and meaningful symbols allow otherwise familiar pieces to become individual.

Celebrity styling can make that idea particularly visible.

When a star such as Deepika Padukone wears a tiny “Dua” pendant or Rani Mukerji wears Adira’s name on an important professional occasion, the jewellery acquires a story beyond its design.

That story is ultimately what makes the piece memorable.

Why the trend feels different from traditional celebrity jewellery

Bollywood has never been short of spectacular jewellery moments.

From elaborate bridal necklaces to diamond chokers and heritage jewellery, celebrities regularly wear pieces worth considerable attention.

Name jewellery operates differently.

Its purpose isn’t necessarily to demonstrate rarity or extravagance. Its strongest quality is intimacy.

That makes these pieces feel less like red-carpet accessories and more like personal objects that happen to be photographed.

The contrast is especially striking when they appear alongside couture, designer sarees or high-fashion ensembles.

A celebrity may be dressed in some of the most luxurious clothing available, yet the smallest accessory can end up being the most emotionally significant.

A trend with a personal story

Rani Mukerji, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Kiara Advani have approached motherhood jewellery in different ways.

One wears her daughter’s name on an important award night. Another carries her child’s name while attending a concert. Someone else chooses a tiny gold pendant, while another wears a single word that represents her new identity as a mother.

The designs may differ, but the sentiment is remarkably similar.

These aren’t merely pieces chosen to complete an outfit.

They are wearable reminders of family, identity and love.

And perhaps that is why this particular form of celebrity jewellery feels more enduring than a passing fashion trend. Styles change, metals and silhouettes evolve, and statement pieces eventually disappear from the spotlight.

A child’s name, however, means something entirely different.
