Anushka Ranjan has spoken candidly about the emotional and physical challenges she and Aditya Seal experienced while trying to become parents. The actor revealed that they initially tried to conceive naturally before exploring IUI and eventually IVF, while also considering adoption as another path to parenthood.
For many couples, the journey towards parenthood does not always follow the path they initially imagine.
Anushka Ranjan and Aditya Seal have now opened up about their own experience, discussing fertility treatment, uncertainty, self-doubt and the emotional pressure that can accompany attempts to conceive.
The couple spoke about their journey during an episode of Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi’s Double Date, recorded before the birth of their twin daughters.

Anushka Ranjan Says They Initially Tried Naturally
Anushka explained that she and Aditya initially decided to try for a baby without medical assistance.
After some time, they consulted doctors about their options and were advised to continue trying naturally for several months.
She recalled being told to try conceiving for around six months to a year before considering further steps.
When pregnancy did not happen as they had hoped, the couple explored intrauterine insemination (IUI).

Add Hunterfly on GoogleIUI is a fertility treatment in which prepared sperm is placed directly into the uterus around the time of ovulation. It is generally less invasive than IVF, although the treatment plan can vary depending on an individual’s circumstances.
‘The Medicines Were Making Me Feel Lost’
Anushka also described the impact of medication during the treatment.
She explained that IUI involved fewer injections for her than she expected, but the medication itself still had a significant effect on how she felt.

Fertility treatment can involve hormonal medication and monitoring, and the physical experience can differ considerably from one person to another.
For Anushka, the process was not only physically demanding but emotionally difficult as well.
Anushka Opens Up About Self-Blame
One of the most revealing parts of her conversation was her description of the self-doubt she experienced during the process.
She recalled reaching a point where she began wondering whether something was wrong with her body.
“You start feeling that meri body mein kuch kami hai, kuch toh galat hai,” she said.
Anushka also remembered questioning some of her previous lifestyle choices and wondering whether she had somehow contributed to the difficulty in conceiving.
She spoke about the tendency to search for something to blame when pregnancy does not happen as expected.
But difficulty conceiving is not necessarily a reflection of an individual’s choices or worth. Fertility can be affected by numerous biological, medical and age-related factors, and sometimes no single explanation is immediately apparent.
‘You Feel Like You’re Getting Judged’
For Anushka, discussing fertility attempts with other people was another source of discomfort.
She explained that even saying the words “we are trying to have a kid” could feel difficult because of the judgement she feared from others.
“It’s easy to say ‘trying’, but it is such a tough feeling for some women. You feel like you’re getting judged,” she said.
The comment points to a wider social pressure surrounding pregnancy and parenthood.
Questions about when a couple will have children can sometimes appear harmless, but for someone undergoing fertility treatment, such questions may carry considerable emotional weight.
Keeping fertility struggles private can also leave people feeling isolated, while discussing them can make them feel exposed.
The Couple Eventually Explored IVF
After their earlier attempts, Anushka and Aditya eventually considered in vitro fertilisation (IVF).
Unlike IUI, IVF involves fertilising an egg with sperm in a laboratory before transferring an embryo into the uterus. It is a more involved treatment process and can require multiple medications, monitoring and procedures.
Anushka described the experience as difficult, while Aditya also spoke about how hard it was for him to watch his wife go through the treatment.
The actor recalled being affected by the physical discomfort and emotional strain she experienced.
According to the couple’s account, the experience became intense enough that Aditya reached a point where he decided they would not continue with another IVF attempt if the treatment did not succeed.
Adoption Was Also Considered
The couple had also discussed adoption as another route to parenthood.
Rather than viewing biological parenthood as their only option, Anushka and Aditya considered the possibility of welcoming a child through adoption if fertility treatment did not work.
Their conversations reflected a broader understanding of what it means to become a family: providing a child with love, security and care does not depend solely on how that family is formed.
Ultimately, the couple welcomed twin daughters.
A New Chapter For Anushka And Aditya
The birth of their daughters came after a period that the couple has now chosen to discuss publicly.
For Anushka, sharing the experience may also help make conversations about fertility less isolating for other women who are going through something similar.
Her story highlights several emotions that can accompany fertility treatment—from hope and anticipation to frustration, physical discomfort and self-doubt.
It also underlines why conversations around reproductive health require empathy rather than unsolicited questions or judgement.
Anushka Ranjan’s Acting Career
Anushka Ranjan has maintained a relatively selective presence on screen.
She appeared in the 2018 Hindi film ** Batti Gul Meter Chalu **, in which she played Rita alongside Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam.
She subsequently appeared in the 2019 short film ** Gulabi Lens **.
While her professional appearances have been limited in recent years, Anushka has continued to remain part of the public conversation through her personal and family life.
Her latest comments offer a more personal glimpse into a chapter of her life that was far removed from the glamour associated with the entertainment industry.
Fertility Journeys Are Personal
Anushka’s experience is her own, and fertility treatment does not look the same for every couple.
IUI and IVF are medical procedures that should be considered with qualified fertility specialists based on an individual’s medical history and circumstances. Treatment outcomes also vary, and one person’s experience should not be used to predict another person’s chances of conception.
What Anushka’s account does offer is an honest reminder that fertility struggles can carry an emotional burden that is not always visible from the outside.
For couples going through that journey, compassion, privacy and informed medical support can matter just as much as the treatment itself.
