Ajith Kumar says his children get emotional over his inability to drop them at school

Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar has revealed a deeply personal side of his stardom — one that rarely gets discussed in public. Speaking to THR India, the actor shared how his popularity limits his everyday life in Chennai, including something as simple as dropping his children at school.

Ajith — who married former actor Shalini in 2000 — is father to Anoushka and Aadvik. He admitted that fame is a double-edged sword. While he is grateful for the love he receives, the same fame forces him to stay indoors whenever he is in his hometown.

Ajith said he once attempted to accompany his son to school like any regular parent. But within a few days, the visit was no longer possible, because crowds began to gather outside the school gate.

“I can’t go to my son’s school and drop him like other fathers. I’ve tried. By the third day, people already know the timing. Sometimes the school politely requested me to leave.”

He added that these situations also emotionally impact his children:

“I’ve had my son and daughter cry and say — Papa, why can’t you be like other fathers? It becomes very hard.”

Ajith Kumar — career snapshot

Ajith left school in his teens to become a mechanic before entering modelling. PC Sreeram spotted him, and in 1990 he appeared in En Veedu En Kanavar as a child artist. His first Tamil lead role came with Amaravathi (1993) and his breakthrough arrived with Aasai (1995).

Over the years, Ajith delivered multiple hits including Vaalee, Mugavaree, Kandukondain Kandukondain and Villain. Alongside acting, he also pursued racing professionally at intervals.

In 2024, he appeared in Vidaamuyarchi and Good Bad Ugly. As of now, Ajith has not officially announced his next project.
