Mumbai: Actor Vivek Oberoi’s Mumbai residence offers a striking departure from the polished, urban aesthetic often associated with celebrity homes. Designed to evoke the warmth and simplicity of a Goan farmhouse, the property combines antique furniture, greenery, natural elements and personal family keepsakes to create a rustic retreat in the middle of the city.

Vivek gave viewers a glimpse inside the residence in 2024 through Urban Company’s Reels to Rooms, where he spoke about the ideas and memories that shaped the space he shares with his wife, Priyanka Alva.

Rather than creating a home that simply reflected his public image, Vivek said he wanted the property to represent the couple’s personal lives and their connection to Goa.

A Mumbai home with a village-like atmosphere

One of the most distinctive features of the property is Kamadhenu, Vivek’s pet cow. The actor introduced her during the home tour and explained that having a cow on the property contributes to the village-like atmosphere he wanted to create.

“This is more her house than mine. The aroma of a cowshed gives you a feel that within this city, you are living in your own little village,” Vivek said during the tour.

For the actor, the residence is also a place where he can step away from the demands of his profession. His work often involves portraying characters and entering fictional worlds, but he sees home as a space where he can leave that professional identity behind.

“I work in a world of make belief where everything is superficial but when I walk back from the world to my home, I am not the actor Vivek Oberoi, I am just me,” he said.

Goan farmhouse aesthetics shape the interiors

The Goan influence is visible throughout the residence. Wooden furniture, ornate chandeliers, indoor plants and traditional decorative elements contribute to an earthy aesthetic, while large windows allow the greenery surrounding the property to become part of the interior experience.

A prominent portrait of Goddess Lakshmi is among the home’s decorative features, adding another personal and traditional element to the interiors.

Vivek explained that sustainability and the couple’s connection to Goa were central to the design process.

“The idea was that this home should come from me and Priyanka, and what it represents is our life. When we bought this house, we wanted it to reflect Goa. Everything that you see outside, inside is the essence of a farmhouse,” he said.

The result is a residence that favours warmth and character over an overly formal or contemporary appearance.

A family heirloom adds emotional value

Among the antiques in the bedroom, one piece has a particularly personal connection to Priyanka’s family.

The vintage bed has reportedly been part of her family for at least several decades. For Vivek, its significance extends beyond its age because it reminds him of his own childhood.

“This bed has been in Priyanka’s family for half-a-century and maybe even longer than that. So, I love it because my earliest memory as a 4-year-old is sleeping in a bed like this and feeling cozy and secure while listening to stories from my dadi,” he recalled.

The inclusion of such heirlooms gives the home a sense of continuity. Instead of treating furniture purely as décor, the couple has incorporated pieces carrying family memories and history.

Bringing the outdoors inside

Nature is another defining element of the residence. Tall trees and greenery can be seen through the large windows, helping create a visual connection between the house and its surroundings.

That connection continues into the backyard, where some functional details have deliberately been left visible. Exposed pipes and a tap are not concealed behind elaborate finishes, reflecting Vivek’s preference for an imperfect but lived-in environment.

The actor said he appreciates the unusual details rather than trying to make every part of the property look conventionally perfect.

“We like this quirkiness and madness,” he said while concluding the home tour.

A home designed around personality and memories
