Vaaishnavi Prajapati Opens Up About Emotional Impact of Ragging Track in ‘Ganga Mai Ki Betiyan’

Vaaishnavi Prajapati says filming Soni’s ragging storyline in ‘Ganga Mai Ki Betiyan’ made her understand the serious emotional impact bullying can have on students.

Ganga Mai Ki Betiyan, starring Amandeep Sidhu as Sneha and Sheizaan Khan as Siddhu, has continued to use its family drama narrative to explore social issues that affect everyday life.

The show is now turning its attention to bullying and ragging through Soni, played by Vaaishnavi Prajapati, as the character enters a difficult phase of her college journey.

Vaaishnavi Prajapati says the script affected her emotionally

Speaking about the storyline, Vaaishnavi said she was deeply affected even while reading the script.

“Reading the script was itself a very emotional experience for me,” she said.

The actress explained that her own educational experience had not involved personal exposure to ragging, but she was aware that it remains a reality for many students.

“Being mostly online with my studies, I have been fortunate not to personally be subjected to ragging, although I know it is a reality for many students,” she added.

Working on the scenes gave her a different perspective on the seriousness of the issue.

“Making these scenes I really felt how serious the issue is and it made me realize how much it can affect a person,” Vaaishnavi said.

She also drew a distinction between harmless interaction among friends and behaviour that crosses the line into humiliation or psychological harm.

“A bit of harmless fun between friends is one thing, but ragging that humiliates or traumatizes is not okay,” she said.

Why Soni does not fight back

One of the more challenging aspects of the storyline for Vaaishnavi was portraying Soni as someone who does not immediately fight back.

The actress said she initially questioned why a character who had consistently been shown as strong would remain quiet while facing bullying.

“I would often wonder why Soni, who has always been portrayed as such a strong girl, wasn’t fighting back,” she said.

However, portraying the scenes helped her understand that strength does not necessarily mean being able to respond immediately to trauma.

Vaaishnavi said she gradually understood the emotional toll that persistent bullying can have on a person while performing Soni’s scenes of quietly enduring the situation.

“As an actor, I felt very emotional while shooting this track,” she said.

At the same time, she described the storyline as an important opportunity to participate in a narrative addressing an issue that deserves greater attention.

“I also felt grateful to be a part of a story that sheds light on such an important issue,” she added.

Soni’s situation takes a dramatic turn

The ragging storyline is set to become even more complicated in the upcoming episodes.

Shivani, the student who has been bullying Soni, is expected to turn the situation around by making it appear as though Soni was the one harassing her.
