Actor Tridha Choudhury has weighed in on the demanding work culture of the film industry, offering a grounded perspective on long shooting hours and the realities behind the glamour.

A Human Perspective on Work Hours

Speaking in an exclusive interaction, Tridha addressed the ongoing conversation around long working hours, noting that the issue should be seen from a broader, human lens rather than limited to actors alone.

She pointed out that technicians—such as lightmen and crew members—often put in the longest hours on set, arriving before everyone else and wrapping up last. According to her, their contribution is fundamental to the final output, yet frequently under-recognised.

“Comfort, Not Luxury” for Actors

Tridha also spoke about the perception that actors lead overly privileged lives. While acknowledging that actors do receive certain comforts, she clarified that it is far from a luxurious experience.

She explained that actors are expected to stay alert and perform consistently, even after long hours, which brings its own pressures.

Need for Structured Schedules

On the question of work hours, Tridha suggested that the industry would benefit from a more standardised schedule, ideally within 10–12 hours a day. She emphasised that extended shifts or back-to-back schedules often affect the quality of work rather than improving it.

Impact of Exhaustion on Performance

Highlighting the creative impact, she noted that fatigue becomes visible on screen after prolonged working hours. According to her, performances lose freshness when actors are pushed beyond a certain limit, especially after extended shoot days.

She stressed that a balanced schedule not only supports better output but also respects the well-being of everyone involved.

A Call for Empathy

Tridha underlined the importance of empathy on sets, saying that acknowledging people as individuals with personal lives and commitments can make a significant difference in work culture.

Despite the challenges, she shared that her overall experience in the industry has been largely positive.

Final Take

Tridha Choudhury’s comments bring focus to an often-overlooked aspect of filmmaking—the people behind the scenes and the conditions they work in. Her perspective adds to the growing conversation around sustainable work practices in the entertainment industry.
