Inside Sofia Vergara’s $26 Million Beverly Park Mansion She Once Compared to a ‘Castle in Transylvania’

Sofia Vergara’s Los Angeles mansion did not immediately win her over when she first saw it. With towering columns, sweeping arches and an elaborate architectural style, the property reminded the actor of something much more dramatic than a contemporary celebrity home.

Vergara later described her first impression to Architectural Digest as resembling a “castle in Transylvania.” But the sprawling estate had one feature that changed her perspective: its connection to the surrounding landscape.

Vergara and her then-husband Joe Manganiello purchased the Beverly Park property for $26 million in 2020, according to the Los Angeles Times. Set across roughly 1.85 acres, the estate includes a main residence spanning approximately 17,100 square feet, along with extensive outdoor spaces and additional amenities.

The property had already undergone substantial work before Vergara and Manganiello acquired it. Its previous owner was former San Francisco Giants baseball player Barry Bonds.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the estate included a large villa-style main residence, a two-story guesthouse, swimming pool, spa and sports court. Architectural Digest has listed six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms among the home’s features.

The grounds are equally expansive, with fountains, olive trees, two motor courts and a four-car garage.

Inside, the mansion offers dedicated spaces for several aspects of daily life, including cooking, exercising, watching movies and entertaining family and friends.

Why Did Sofia Vergara Compare the Mansion to a Castle?

Vergara discussed the home during an Architectural Digest tour in 2024, explaining that the abundance of arches and columns immediately gave her the impression of a castle.

The dramatic architecture could easily have been a drawback, but the surrounding views persuaded her to look beyond the home’s initial appearance.

Much of the house opens toward its surroundings, allowing natural scenery to become an important part of the living experience. For Vergara, that made the property’s imposing architecture something she could work with rather than something she needed to completely change.

She subsequently worked with interior designer Ohara Davies-Gaetano to give the interiors a warmer and more lived-in character.

How Sofia Vergara Transformed the Interiors

Rather than trying to erase the mansion’s grand architectural identity, Vergara introduced furnishings, antiques and artwork that brought a more personal quality to the rooms.

One of the living spaces shown during the Architectural Digest tour featured an antique Italian chandelier, an 18th-century French limestone fireplace and a Tabriz rug. Artwork by Colombian artist Fernando Botero was also part of the home’s décor.

The Botero pieces have a particularly personal connection for Vergara, who was born in Colombia. Their presence adds a link to her heritage within a property otherwise filled with European-inspired architectural and design elements.

The interiors were not simply decorated to match the enormous scale of the house. Instead, antiques and distinctive furniture helped create rooms that felt collected and personal.

A Mansion Designed for Family and Friends

Despite its size, Vergara wanted the property to feel like a home rather than a formal showcase.

The design accommodates family and friends, with spaces intended for spending time together, relaxing and entertaining. That approach helped soften some of the home’s more imposing architectural elements.

The contrast is part of what makes the property distinctive: grand columns and arches remain visible, but they sit alongside comfortable furnishings, personal artwork and objects with character.

The Beverly Park Estate’s Outdoor Spaces

The property extends well beyond the main residence. Its grounds include a swimming pool, spa, landscaped areas and spaces designed for outdoor dining.

The estate’s size also allows for a range of recreational facilities. Dedicated areas such as a gym and theatre add to the property’s entertainment options, while the guesthouse provides additional space beyond the main residence.

The expansive grounds and multiple sections of the estate also allow the indoor and outdoor areas to work together, one of the features that initially appealed to Vergara.

From ‘Castle in Transylvania’ to a Personal Home

The Beverly Park mansion may have struck Sofia Vergara as a “castle in Transylvania” when she first walked through its doors, but her approach to the property eventually gave it a very different character.

The original architectural grandeur remains, including its arches, columns and expansive proportions. But antiques, artwork, comfortable furnishings and Mediterranean-inspired touches helped make the interiors feel more intimate.

The presence of Colombian artwork also gives the home a personal connection to Vergara’s background.
