Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana made her first low-profile public appearance this week, days after confirming that her wedding with filmmaker and businessman Palash Muchhal had been cancelled. The vice-captain of India’s women’s team was spotted at the airport on Wednesday afternoon, a moment fans had been anticipating since her public statement went live.

The Wedding That Was Supposed to Happen

Mandhana’s wedding was initially scheduled for 23 November. However, plans shifted unexpectedly after her father, Shriniwas Mandhana, was hospitalised due to heart-related concerns. Both families decided to delay the ceremony while addressing the health situation.

With neither Smriti nor Palash speaking publicly at the time, online speculation intensified, giving rise to rumours and confusion.

Smriti Confirms: Wedding Cancelled

On Sunday, Mandhana broke her silence with a detailed note on Instagram. In her clear and composed statement, she wrote:

“Over the past few weeks, there has been plenty of speculation around my life and I feel it is important for me to speak out at this time. I am a very private person and I would like to keep it that way but I need to clarify that the wedding is called off. I would like to close this matter here and implore all of you to do the same. I request you to please respect the privacy of both families at this time and allow us the space to process and move on at our own pace.”

She further added:

“I believe there is a higher purpose driving us all, and for me, it has always been representing my country at the highest level. I hope to continue to play and win trophies for India for as long as possible. That is where my focus will forever be.”

Shortly after, Palash Muchhal also shared his own message, confirming that he was moving on and urging people not to spread misinformation.

For now, both individuals appear focused on healing privately and moving ahead with their professional commitments.
