Siliguri Durga Puja to Feature 100 Kg of Gold Jewellery Worth ₹140 Crore

Durga Puja in Bengal is as much a celebration of creativity and craftsmanship as it is a religious festival. Every year, puja committees across the state transform their pandals into elaborate visual experiences, using intricate designs, artistic installations and distinctive themes to draw visitors.

This year, a Durga Puja celebration in Siliguri is set to take that spectacle to an extraordinary scale. The Central Colony Durga Puja Committee plans to adorn Goddess Durga and her family with 100 kilograms of gold jewellery, with the collection valued at around ₹140 crore, according to the information shared by the committee.

The puja committee is celebrating its 64th year and has partnered with a jewellery brand for the elaborate display.

Goddess Durga and Her Family to Be Adorned in Gold

The planned jewellery collection will not be limited to Goddess Durga. The entire divine family will be dressed in gold ornaments, making the jewellery a major part of the idols’ overall presentation.

Speaking about the preparations, Partha Dey of the Central Colony Durga Puja Committee explained that the collection will include several traditional ornaments for Goddess Durga.

“The 100 kg of gold will include Maa Durga’s neckpiece, earrings, stacks of bangles, anklets and crown. Her children will also be adorned entirely in gold jewellery,” Dey said.

The planned adornments are expected to cover everything from the goddess’s crown and earrings to jewellery worn on her arms and feet. Her children will also receive gold ornaments as part of the presentation.

A Major Attraction for Siliguri Visitors

With such a large quantity of gold incorporated into the idols’ adornment, the jewellery is expected to become one of the defining visual elements of the Central Colony Durga Puja this year.

Durga Puja pandals traditionally serve as temporary spaces where artistic concepts, craftsmanship and religious traditions come together. The Central Colony committee’s decision to use an extensive gold jewellery collection adds another layer to that festive presentation.

The reported ₹140-crore valuation also puts the scale of the project in focus, although the exact value of gold can vary with market prices.

As the 64th edition of the Central Colony Durga Puja approaches, the planned golden adornment of Maa Durga and her family is set to give Siliguri another distinctive attraction for the festive season.
