Shriya Pilgaonkar Says ‘Guilty Minds’ Season 2 Cancellation ‘Broke My Heart’: ‘I’m So Emotional About That Show’

Shriya Pilgaonkar continues to hold Guilty Minds and her character Kashaf Quaze close to her heart. The legal drama, which premiered in 2022, did not return for a second season, and the actor has now opened up about how deeply the show’s cancellation affected her.

“Guilty Minds is a series that is closest to my heart because that character of Kashaf was so beautifully written. It is so rare to get a part like that,” she said.

The actor admitted that she was deeply disappointed when a second season was not commissioned.

“I’m so emotional about that show and usually, I’m very strong about everything, but it broke my heart when Season 2 of ‘Guilty Minds’ wasn’t commissioned,” Shriya said.

Despite the show’s conclusion, she continues to stand by the series and its open-ended finale.

“I stand by how good that show was, and that open ending,” she added.

The actor says letting go of a project can be difficult

Shriya also spoke about the emotional attachment actors can develop towards characters and projects. While performers invest considerable time and energy in a series, the decision about whether a show continues ultimately lies beyond their control.

According to Shriya, actors eventually have to learn to separate themselves emotionally from their work and move on to new opportunities.

“Actors have to deal with this sometimes, where we get so attached to something. Eventually, we have to be spiritually understanding and detach and do all this,” she explained.

Even so, the actor remains proud of Guilty Minds and the response it received from her fans.

“All my girls really love the show and I’m very proud of it,” Shriya said.

What was Guilty Minds about?

Guilty Minds was a legal drama centred on Kashaf Quaze and Deepak Rana, whose relationship was shaped by both their personal connection and their professional lives.

The two meet in law school and develop a complicated bond. As their careers progress, they find themselves operating on opposing sides of legal battles.

Deepak works as a partner at a prominent law firm and represents major corporate clients. His professional ambitions become an important part of the show’s conflicts.

The story also introduced Shubhangi Khanna, who joined the firm as Deepak’s junior. As the heiress of the firm, her presence added another layer to the personal and professional dynamics surrounding the characters.

For Shriya, Kashaf’s complexity and the writing of the character were among the biggest reasons the show remains memorable.

Shriya Pilgaonkar has a busy September ahead

While Guilty Minds remains an important chapter in Shriya’s career, the actor is now looking ahead to a busy month at the movies.

She has multiple theatrical projects lined up, including Mirzapur The Movie and Haiwaan. With the films arriving in September, Shriya is hoping audiences return to cinemas and support theatrical releases.

The actor also sees the possibility of one successful film creating momentum for others.

“I am seated and all here for September 4 for Mirzapur, and the 11th for Haiwaan,” she said. “And I also feel [there’s a] domino effect. So I’m really hoping that people watch all the films in theatres now in the next two-three months at least. It’s super cool. It’s fun for me.”

Mirzapur The Movie is directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna. The cast includes Shriya Pilgaonkar, Varun Mitra, Namrata Sheth, Sugandha Garg and Kulbhushan Kharbanda.

Why Shriya is nervous about returning to theatres

Shriya is also preparing for a significant return to the big screen after a considerable gap. Despite her years of experience in the entertainment industry, she says the anticipation surrounding a theatrical release remains special for her.

Rather than taking the process for granted, the actor wants to experience every part of it, from the excitement before release to finally seeing audiences watch the film.

“I’m just wanting to soak in every moment because it’s something I don’t take for granted at all. I have these theatrical releases after a very long time,” Shriya said.

She also admitted to feeling both nervous and excited as the release approaches.

“I’m nervous and excited about Friday now, and it’s a very big deal for me,” she added.

For Shriya, the emotional significance of a theatrical release does not diminish with experience. A film goes through a long process from the moment an actor signs it to production and, eventually, its arrival before audiences.

“I don’t think I’ll ever be casual about it because a lot happens for that one film from the point you sign it, to making it, to it actually seeing the light of day. That feeling will never ever get old,” she said.

Although Guilty Minds did not get the second season Shriya had hoped for, the series continues to occupy an important place in her career. Her comments make it clear that her attachment to Kashaf Quaze was rooted in the writing and the opportunity the character gave her as an actor.
