Samvritha Sunil to make Malayalam cinema comeback with Shahid Arafath’s next

Samvritha Sunil is set to return to Malayalam cinema after a long break. The actor will headline an upcoming film directed by Shahid Arafath, marking a new collaboration between the filmmaker and production houses Navarasa Films and Stone Bench Studios.

Malayalam actor Samvritha Sunil is returning to the big screen after a prolonged absence, with a new project helmed by filmmaker Shahid Arafath.

The yet-to-be-titled film had its switch-on and pooja ceremonies on Tuesday, officially marking the beginning of the project. Shahid Arafath, who previously directed the acclaimed 2023 film Thankam, is returning to the director’s chair with the upcoming project.

The film is being produced by Sreejith K S under Navarasa Films and Kaarthekeyan S under Stone Bench Studios. The project is currently being referred to as Navarasa Production No. 3, although an official title is yet to be announced.

Samvritha Sunil returns to Malayalam cinema

Samvritha Sunil’s return is one of the key highlights of the project. The actor, known for her work across Malayalam cinema, has largely stayed away from films in recent years.

Her comeback film brings her together with an ensemble cast, with actor Dileesh Pothan and filmmaker-actor Alphonse Puthren also set to appear in important roles.

The supporting cast includes Jibin Gopinath, Abhijith Suresh, Aswathy Manoharan, Riyaz Khan and Sruthy Jayan. Details about the characters and the storyline are currently being kept under wraps.

Shahid Arafath begins his next after Thankam

The upcoming film marks Shahid Arafath’s next directorial venture after Thankam, which was released in 2023.

Thankam, written by Syam Pushkaran, featured Biju Menon, Vineeth Sreenivasan and Aparna Balamurali in prominent roles. The film explored the world of gold transportation while combining elements of crime, drama and human relationships.

With his new project, Arafath is now moving into a different story world, although the makers have yet to reveal details about the genre or plot.

Navarasa Films and Stone Bench Studios reunite

The project also continues the association between Navarasa Films and Stone Bench Studios. The two production houses previously collaborated on the horror-comedy Prakambanam, released last year.

Their latest collaboration brings together an interesting mix of established performers and newer talents, with Samvritha’s return adding further interest to the project.
