Kannada Actress Rashmi Leela Dies at 37 After Prolonged Lung Illness

Kannada television actress Rashmi Leela passed away on February 16 at the age of 37 following a prolonged battle with serious lung-related complications. Her husband, Saraki Manju, confirmed the news through a Facebook post, stating that despite medical efforts and prayers, she could not be saved.

Health Struggles Over the Years

Rashmi had been living with rheumatoid arthritis for nearly seven years. The autoimmune condition, known for causing joint pain and inflammation, later led to severe complications affecting her lungs. She was subsequently diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis — a condition that scars lung tissue and progressively reduces breathing capacity.

Over the past year, her condition deteriorated significantly, and she became fully dependent on an oxygen cylinder for respiratory support. Doctors eventually recommended a lung transplant as her only viable treatment option.

Lung Transplant and Public Support

About four weeks before her passing, Rashmi underwent a lung transplant. The procedure reportedly cost around ₹19 lakh. The funds were raised with support from well-wishers, colleagues, and members of the public after appeals were shared through her social media accounts. In August last year, she had openly requested financial assistance, and many came forward to help.

Despite undergoing surgery, her health did not stabilise.

Rashmi Leela was known for her roles in Kannada television serials and for maintaining a close bond with her followers online. Even during her illness, she remained active on social media, regularly sharing updates about her treatment and recovery journey. Her openness and resilience earned admiration from fans and industry peers.

Following her death, members of the television fraternity and viewers have expressed grief over the loss of a young actress who faced her health challenges with courage and determination.
