Priyanka Chopra’s Brother ‘Grew Up on His Own’ as Mother Travelled With Actress, Father Remained Busy With Medical Career

Fame often looks glamorous from the outside, but behind many success stories lie quiet personal sacrifices. In the case of Priyanka Chopra, her mother now admits that the cost of her rise was felt within the family itself.

Long before global premieres, red carpets, and Hollywood headlines, Priyanka Chopra was an uncertain teenager being gently but firmly guided toward a film career she did not initially want. That decision, driven largely by her mother Dr Madhu Chopra, shaped not only Priyanka’s future but also deeply affected her younger brother, Siddharth Chopra.

A hesitant entry into cinema

After winning the Miss World title in 2000, Priyanka Chopra was flooded with film offers. However, acting was never her original ambition. Madhu Chopra has previously revealed that her daughter was academically inclined and deeply unsure about joining the film industry.

The hesitation was so intense that when Priyanka signed her debut Tamil film Thamizhan, there were visible tear marks on the contract. To support her daughter during this uncertain phase, Madhu began travelling extensively with the then 18-year-old Priyanka as she navigated the early years of her acting career.

During this period, Priyanka’s father, Dr Ashok Chopra, remained occupied with his medical practice. As a result, Siddharth Chopra spent much of his teenage years without either parent consistently present at home.

“Collateral damage” of success

Reflecting on that phase during an appearance on the Something Bigger Show, Madhu Chopra spoke with rare candour.

“Siddharth was the collateral damage to all of Priyanka’s success,” she said. “Their dad was working, I was with Priyanka, and he just grew up on his own. He was a teenager at that time. I think he was collateral damage for me.”

She added that these realities only became clearer with time. “When I think about it, these are certain things that you had to deal with,” she said, acknowledging the emotional trade-offs that accompanied her daughter’s rapid rise.

A mother’s lingering concern

Speaking about Siddharth, who got married in 2024, Madhu admitted that her concerns for her son remain.

“I see him struggling every day,” she said, adding that gratitude helps her maintain perspective. “God has blessed me. I count my blessings every day. I have two great kids who love me and care for me.”

Balancing career, parenting, and values

On Dr Stuti Khare Shukla’s YouTube channel, Madhu also spoke about balancing Priyanka’s early career, her own medical profession, and household responsibilities. Despite the demanding schedule, she maintained that quality time with her children was never compromised.

“When I was with them, it was 100 percent children’s time,” she said. “That’s how they imbibed work ethics — understanding that you must work hard to achieve something, while also giving time to yourself, your family, and your life.”

She also highlighted the contrast in her children’s routines. While Siddharth preferred later mornings, Priyanka adapted her schedule to the demands of her work. “Depending on the kind of work she is doing, she will be up at 4 am if needed,” Madhu said.

Where the family stands today

Today, Siddharth Chopra lives in India with his wife Neelam, while Priyanka Chopra balances a global career from the United States with husband Nick Jonas and their daughter Malti Marie.
