Veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan has addressed comparisons between his upcoming film Bhooth Bangla and the 2007 hit Bhool Bhulaiyaa. In a recent conversation with IndyaStory, the director clarified that the two films belong to very different genres and should not be viewed as connected.
The filmmaker also spoke about working once again with actor Akshay Kumar, describing the star as someone who has often brought him good fortune in his projects.
Priyadarshan on expectations surrounding Bhooth Bangla
Responding to the strong reactions following the teaser and announcement of the film, Priyadarshan said expectations can sometimes become a challenge for filmmakers.
According to him, audiences should not compare the new project with Bhool Bhulaiyaa because the core ideas behind the films are completely different.

The director added that many people in the country strongly believe in paranormal activities and perform rituals related to such beliefs, which forms the thematic base of the upcoming horror-comedy.
Akshay Kumar and Akshaye Khanna are ‘lucky’ for him
Priyadarshan also spoke warmly about collaborating again with actors Akshay Kumar and Akshaye Khanna, revealing that both have been fortunate for him in past projects.
He praised Akshay Kumar’s versatility, noting that the actor can easily shift between comedy and serious roles. The filmmaker highlighted their earlier collaborations in films such as Hungama and Hulchul, which remain popular among audiences.
Not a sequel to Bhool Bhulaiyaa
The director firmly denied that Bhooth Bangla is connected to the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise.
