An FIR has been lodged against actors Parambrata Chattopadhyay and Swastika Mukherjee over alleged provocative social media posts connected to the 2021 post-poll violence in West Bengal, according to police officials.
The complaint was filed at Kolkata’s Gariahat police station by advocate Joydeep Sen, who alleged that remarks made by the actors on social media may have contributed to political hostility during the tense period following the West Bengal Assembly election results in May 2021.
According to the complaint, Parambrata Chattopadhyay allegedly posted on X, formerly Twitter, on May 2, 2021:
“Let today be declared World Thrashing Day.”

Complaint Links Posts to Political Violence
The complainant claimed that the remarks were made during a highly sensitive political atmosphere after the Trinamool Congress secured a majority in the assembly elections.
The FIR also reportedly referred to incidents of violence, arson and attacks that took place across different parts of West Bengal during the post-poll unrest.
The complaint specifically mentioned the killing of BJP worker Abhijit Sarkar in Beliaghata and alleged that comments of this nature could have encouraged political aggression.
According to police officials, the matter is currently under investigation.
“A complaint has been received at Gariahat police station, and an FIR has been registered. The matter is being examined as per law,” a senior Kolkata Police officer said.
Legal Sections Mentioned in Complaint
The complainant reportedly argued that the alleged posts could attract charges related to abetment under Section 107 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
