Nyrraa M Banerji Turns Down Repetitive TV Vamp Roles, Says She Still Believes in Old-School Romance

Nyrraa M Banerji has revealed why she has largely stayed away from television in recent years. The actor says that many of the offers arriving after her stint in Pishachini have been for negative characters, a category she does not want to revisit repeatedly.

Three years after Pishachini, Nyrraa says she is looking for projects that offer something different rather than simply returning to the same type of character.

Nyrraa M Banerji Says She Is Tired of Negative Role Offers

According to Nyrraa, her performance in Pishachini led to her being associated strongly with negative characters.

“After Pishachini, people only call me for negative leads,” she said, adding that although she enjoys supernatural shows, she does not want to repeat a similar character.

The actor also pointed out that audiences may have overlooked the number of positive roles she has played throughout her career.

She cited projects including Divya Drishti, Excuse Me Madam and Raksha Bandhan as examples of her work in positive roles.

‘I Don’t Want to Get Into the Vamp Category’

Nyrraa said she does not particularly enjoy portraying negative characters and does not want to be restricted to the television vamp category.

For her, one of the limitations of repeatedly playing such characters is the lack of progression that can sometimes come with the role.

“I also feel that there is no progression in such roles beyond a point because a negative character’s only goal is to kill or trouble the others,” she explained.

Rather than accepting an offer simply for the sake of being visible on television, Nyrraa says she would prefer to wait for projects that genuinely interest her.

Her Move From South Cinema to Television Was Unplanned

Nyrraa began her acting career with South Indian films before appearing in television and OTT projects.

Looking back at the transition, she said there was no detailed career plan behind her movement between different entertainment mediums.

“I never planned to dabble in mediums or make a transition; it happened naturally,” she said.

The actor also described herself as someone who is not driven by excessive ambition but remains particular about the quality of work she chooses.

“I am not an overambitious person, but I want to do good projects,” Nyrraa said.

Nyrraa Wants to Settle Down

Away from her professional choices, Nyrraa also spoke about her personal life and her thoughts about marriage.

The actor said settling down has been on her mind for several years.

“I have been wanting to settle down for the past few years now. It’s been on my mind,” she shared.

However, her idea of finding love is quite traditional.

‘I Still Believe in Old-School Romance’

Nyrraa said she is not particularly drawn to the modern online dating culture and believes it has changed the way people approach romantic relationships.

“I think online dating culture has destroyed the vulnerability of love,” she said.

Instead, the actor said she continues to believe in an old-fashioned approach to finding a partner—meeting someone through mutual friends or family rather than beginning a relationship through an online dating platform.

Her comments offer a glimpse into a more traditional view of relationships at a time when dating apps have become an increasingly common way for people to meet.

Nyrraa M Banerji on Her Past Relationship

Nyrraa was previously in a relationship with actor Nishant Malkani. The two reportedly parted ways more than a year and a half ago.

When asked about their equation today, Nyrraa kept her response brief and said that the two are no longer in contact.

The actor now appears focused on finding projects that allow her to explore something beyond the negative roles she has increasingly been offered.
