Priyanka Chopra Recalls Emotional Roka With Nick Jonas

Actor Priyanka Chopra, currently promoting her upcoming film The Bluff, has been sharing personal stories from her life during recent podcast appearances. One such memory that stood out was her roka ceremony with Nick Jonas, where he left her family deeply impressed.

Speaking on Mythical Kitchen, Priyanka described the ceremony as an emotional turning point. She revealed that her mother ensured the occasion was special, arranging a traditional setup with four pandits chanting, low seating, and a havan kund at the centre.

Priyanka shared that while the ring exchange did not immediately overwhelm her, walking hand in hand with Nick afterward made her realise the significance of the moment.

“I was like, things are shifting. This is different. I am choosing my family,” she said.

How Nick Won Over the Aunties

According to Priyanka, Nick performed every ritual flawlessly — something that delighted her relatives.

She recalled how her aunties were impressed seeing him say “swaha” correctly during the rituals and even play the dholak. After the ceremony, when the couple briefly stepped away, Nick held her hand and said something that stayed with her.

“I feel like we are on our third or fourth lifetime,” he told her.

In Hindu wedding traditions, couples walk around the sacred fire seven times, symbolising a bond for seven lifetimes. Priyanka said she asked him why he felt that way, and Nick replied that their connection felt familiar — like home — and that he wanted to experience life together fully.

She added with a smile, “How are you not gonna marry that man?”

Addressing Scrutiny Around Their Relationship

In an earlier conversation with Variety, Priyanka spoke about the scrutiny their intercultural relationship initially faced. She noted that factors like nationality, religion, and their age gap often became topics of public discussion.

“It was very hurtful,” she admitted, adding that over time, they chose to focus on each other rather than outside noise.

Nick has also shared his perspective in interviews. On the Jay Shetty Podcast, he revealed he knew from their first date that Priyanka was the one.

He described seeing her walk in wearing jeans, a white top, and a leather jacket, and thinking instantly that he would marry her. Within months, they were engaged and soon after, married.

A Wedding That Blended Traditions

Priyanka and Nick tied the knot in December 2018 in Rajasthan at the grand Umaid Bhawan Palace, hosting both Christian and Hindu ceremonies. The wedding attracted global attention for seamlessly blending cultures and traditions.

In January 2022, the couple welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas, marking another milestone in their journey together.
