From built-in furniture and colourful accent walls to custom lighting and an abundance of plants, the residence combines practical design with a warm, personal aesthetic.

Mahima Makwana’s Boho-Inspired Mumbai Home

Mahima has described her Mumbai residence as a home designed around a boho aesthetic.

When she first visited the property with her mother, the amount of natural light immediately caught her attention. That became one of the defining characteristics of the home.

The actor said she wanted the interiors to include plenty of wood, plants and colour, creating a relaxed environment rather than a heavily formal one.

The result is a home that combines neutral and pastel shades with carefully selected statement elements.

Natural Light Takes Centre Stage

The living room receives substantial natural light, one of the features that attracted Mahima to the property in the first place.

The space uses both white sheer curtains and blackout curtains. The combination allows the room to retain its bright appearance while giving the residents control over direct sunlight when required.

Plants also play an important role in the room. Mahima had envisioned having a large, lush plant beside the television, and the design team incorporated the idea into the finished space.

Wooden Furniture Adds Warmth

Wood is one of the most consistent elements throughout the residence.

Mahima wanted furniture that would complement the bohemian theme while also making efficient use of the home’s relatively compact layout.

Rather than relying heavily on movable pieces, much of the furniture was custom-built and integrated into the walls.

She explained that the home’s limited space presented a challenge because she had many requirements for the interiors. Custom construction allowed her to make better use of the available area.

This approach also gave the home a more cohesive appearance, with furniture designed specifically for individual spaces rather than purchased as standard pieces.

A Living Room With Personal Touches

The living room includes a pastel pink sofa positioned near a lamp and decorative artwork.

A ladder placed close to the entrance serves a practical as well as decorative purpose. It displays a selection of photographs, books, plants and smaller décor pieces.

The arrangement gives the space a lived-in quality while allowing personal objects to become part of the interior design.

The Orange Accent Wall

One of the more striking features of Mahima’s home is an orange accent wall.

The otherwise soft-toned interior gets a burst of colour through this section of the house. A round mirror with integrated lighting sits on the wall, accompanied by a small cabinet below.

The area demonstrates Mahima’s approach to décor: keeping the overall design relatively simple while introducing individual elements that stand out.

A Concealed Bar and Custom Dining Light

Near the accent wall is a concealed bar, another example of how the home incorporates functional features without allowing them to dominate the interiors.

The dining area includes a custom-made light fixture positioned above the wooden dining table.

Mahima wanted the lighting to remain minimal while still becoming a noticeable design element. The fixture was created specifically to work with the home’s bohemian aesthetic.

Her Mother’s Bedroom

Mahima’s mother’s bedroom features a bay window with textured blinds, creating another area where natural light becomes part of the design.

The room also houses a display of Mahima’s awards. Built-in shelving provides space to showcase the trophies while keeping the arrangement integrated into the room rather than creating a separate display unit.

An unusual, organically shaped mirror adds another decorative feature. Instead of choosing a conventional rectangular or circular mirror, Mahima opted for an amoeba-inspired shape.

The bedroom also uses a sofa-cum-bed to save space. A large conventional bed could have consumed much of the available floor area, so the multifunctional furniture provides greater flexibility.

A blue wardrobe with golden handles adds another layer of colour to the room.

Mahima’s Bedroom

Mahima’s own bedroom follows a more specific colour direction.

The actor wanted blue tones in the room, leading to the creation of a blue accent wall behind the bed.

A large window brings natural light into the bedroom, continuing one of the home’s central design themes.

She also chose ceiling-height curtains, a design technique that can make a room appear taller and more spacious.

Smart Storage and Custom Details

The bedroom includes a mirror with a concealed storage cabinet behind it, combining functionality with a clean visual appearance.

A wooden chest cabinet with a textured finish provides additional storage while contributing to the room’s natural-material aesthetic.

Her wardrobe features cane and glass shutters, bringing together traditional-looking materials with a contemporary design approach.

These details complement the wooden furniture used throughout the rest of the home.

A Home Designed Around Mahima’s Vision

Mahima has said that she was particular about the house’s design, colours and overall look.

Rather than relying on ready-made furniture, she and her design team created many elements specifically for the space. This allowed the home to reflect her personal preferences while addressing the practical challenge of working within a relatively compact Mumbai residence.

The combination of wood, plants, natural light, pastel shades and stronger accent colours gives the interiors a relaxed but highly personalised character.

What Makes Mahima Makwana’s Home Stand Out?

Several design choices define the residence:

  • Boho-inspired interiors
  • Extensive use of wood
  • Abundant natural light
  • Custom-built furniture
  • Indoor plants
  • Pastel and accent colours
  • Custom lighting fixtures
  • Built-in storage
  • Cane and glass wardrobe details
  • Personal photographs, books and awards

Rather than following a single rigid design style, the home brings together different materials and colours around a consistent bohemian foundation.

Final Take

Mahima Makwana’s Mumbai residence is less about following a particular luxury trend and more about creating a space around her own preferences.

The emphasis on natural light, wood, plants and colour gives the home a warm atmosphere, while custom furniture and concealed storage make the most of the available space.

From the orange feature wall and custom dining light to the blue bedroom and award display, each room contains details that reflect Mahima’s personality and approach to design.
