Keerthy Suresh Reveals Why She Immediately Said Yes to Karthik Subbaraj’s Dorothy

Keerthy Suresh has revealed what convinced her to join director Karthik Subbaraj’s upcoming film Dorothy, saying she agreed to the project almost immediately after reading its synopsis.

Speaking at the film’s pre-release event in Chennai, the actor also reflected on the opportunity to work with Karthik Subbaraj and legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja, while expressing confidence that the film could connect with audiences beyond India.

Dorothy is scheduled to release in theatres on September 25.

Keerthy Suresh Says She Said Yes After Reading the Synopsis

Keerthy recalled that Karthik Subbaraj initially approached her by sharing the film’s synopsis and asking whether she would be interested in taking on a project of that kind.

According to the actor, the story was enough to convince her.

“Karthik Subbaraj sir first sent me the synopsis and asked me, ‘Would you be interested in doing a film like this?’ After reading it, I immediately told him, ‘Definitely, I will do it, sir,’” she said.

Keerthy described being part of Dorothy as a matter of pride. Although her involvement in the shoot lasted only a few days, she said the experience gave her an opportunity to learn from Karthik Subbaraj.

Her comments underline how strongly the film’s initial concept appealed to her before she became part of the project.

Keerthy Suresh on Working With Ilaiyaraaja

Another major attraction for Keerthy was the opportunity to be part of a film featuring music by Ilaiyaraaja.

The actor said she had never imagined that she would get the opportunity to act in a movie with the veteran composer’s music.

“The name Dorothy means ‘a gift from God’. I believe this film will also be a gift to the audience,” she said.

For Keerthy, the combination of Karthik Subbaraj’s direction and Ilaiyaraaja’s music made the project particularly special.

“Just as Priyan sir is a guru to me, Thiru sir is also my guru,” she said.

The actor revealed that Dorothy marks her third film with Thiru and their first Tamil film together. She has known the cinematographer since her debut film, Geethanjali.
