Jyotirmoyee Kundu Joins Shakib Khan in ‘Prince: Once Upon a Time in Dhaka’ for Eid Release

Indian actress Jyotirmoyee Kundu is making her debut in Bangladeshi cinema with Shakib Khan-starrer Prince: Once Upon a Time in Dhaka, marking a significant new chapter in her rapidly developing film career.

Kundu, who will appear opposite Bangladeshi superstar Shakib Khan, has already completed a five-day shooting schedule for the film in Sri Lanka. In an interview with Anandabazar, the actress described the experience as challenging but rewarding as the production works toward an Eid release.

Visa Delays Shifted the Shoot to Sri Lanka

The production had originally planned to begin filming in India in December. However, visa-related delays forced the team to rethink its schedule and move part of the production to Sri Lanka.

With the release timeline approaching, the cast and crew reportedly worked through an intensive schedule to complete the required footage.

For Kundu, the compressed timetable presented an additional challenge as she was entering a new film industry and working with an unfamiliar team. She said the support she received on set helped her settle into the production quickly.

The actress particularly highlighted the assistance she received with dialogue delivery, which helped make the transition into Bangladeshi cinema more comfortable.

Kundu Shares Screen With Shakib Khan

Working opposite Shakib Khan represents a major opportunity for Kundu, whose career began in television before moving into feature films.

She made her Tollywood big-screen debut opposite Dev in Projapoti 2. Her next major film appearance now places her alongside Shakib Khan, one of Bangladesh’s most prominent commercial stars.

Kundu reportedly drew a comparison between Dev and Shakib, noting that both actors maintain a professional approach to their work and contribute to a positive atmosphere on set.

For the actress, Prince therefore represents more than simply another film—it is also her first opportunity to work within Bangladesh’s film industry and alongside a major Bangladeshi star.

Shakib Khan Plays a Gangster in 1990s Dhaka

Prince: Once Upon a Time in Dhaka is set against the backdrop of 1990s Dhaka, with Shakib Khan playing a gangster.

The period setting and crime-oriented storyline give the film a distinct backdrop, while the ensemble cast brings together performers from both television and cinema.

Tasnia Farin has a key role in the film, while the cast also includes Nasir Uddin Khan, Ejajul Islam and Intekhab Dinar.

The combination of Shakib Khan’s star power, a period crime setting and Kundu’s debut in Bangladeshi cinema has generated interest ahead of the Eid release.

Abu Hayat Mahmud Directs the Film

The film is directed by Abu Hayat Mahmud and produced by Creative Land Films.

The production’s decision to shoot in Sri Lanka following the visa complications demonstrates the tight schedule surrounding the project. For Kundu, completing the overseas schedule has also provided her first substantial experience working on a Bangladeshi production.

As Prince: Once Upon a Time in Dhaka heads toward Eid, attention will remain on how Jyotirmoyee Kundu’s pairing with Shakib Khan translates on screen and how the film presents its 1990s Dhaka setting.

The project could also strengthen the growing creative connection between the Bengali film industries on both sides of the border, with performers increasingly appearing in productions across India and Bangladesh.
