Jason Sanjay Opens Up About Father CM Vijay’s Advice: ‘Build Your Own Identity’

Filmmaker Jason Sanjay, son of actor-turned-Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, has shared the personal advice that continues to shape his career as he prepares for the release of his directorial debut, Sigma, starring Sundeep Kishan.

In a recent interview with Behindwoods TV, Jason spoke about growing up in a well-known family, the responsibilities that come with his father’s new political role, and why he wants to establish an identity based on his own work rather than his surname.

‘Build Your Own Name’

Jason revealed that one of the most meaningful lessons he received from his father was to create his own path in life.

According to him, Vijay encouraged him to earn recognition through his own efforts instead of depending on his family’s popularity.

“I really like the advice he gave me. He wanted me to build my own identity and my own name. That is where I was also coming from.”

Jason added that this approach has guided his decisions as he steps into filmmaking.

Learning Through Experience

The young filmmaker also explained that Vijay wanted him to become independent by learning from his own successes and failures.

Rather than offering constant direction, his father encouraged him to take initiative whenever he needed guidance.

“He told me, ‘I would not come and ask you what you want.’ He wanted me to learn many things through my own experiences.”

Jason said he remains grateful to his parents and family for giving him the freedom to grow while always being available for support when needed.

Life After Vijay Became Chief Minister

Reflecting on Vijay’s recent victory in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, Jason described the moment as a significant milestone for the family.

He said his father’s rise to the state’s highest elected office has brought greater responsibility not only for him but also for his sister and the rest of the family.

“We need to carry forward and safeguard this extra level of responsibility and legacy.”

Jason acknowledged that being the son of the Chief Minister requires him to be more mindful of his words and actions in public life.

Preparing for Sigma

Jason Sanjay is currently gearing up for the release of Sigma, his first feature film as a director.

The project stars Sundeep Kishan in the lead role and marks Jason’s official entry into mainstream filmmaking. While the makers have generated anticipation around the film, additional details regarding its storyline and release schedule are expected to be announced closer to launch.
