Actor Imran Khan, who took a hiatus from films for a few years, has opened up about his journey through depression, divorce, and recovery, crediting his daughter Imara and partner Lekha Washington for playing a key role in his healing. Imran is set to make a comeback with a cameo in Vir Das’ directorial ‘Happy Patel’.
Speaking to NDTV, the actor described this phase of life as “empowering, uplifting, and a two-way thing.” He reflected on the power of love in his recovery, saying:
“To be loved by someone truly gives you strength and heals you. To give love truthfully and selflessly to another also is empowering and healing. I have found this, in between my daughter and my partner Lekha, to give and to receive love. It has been absolutely crucial to my healing and to my own growth and well-being.”
He also highlighted the importance of therapy and self-care in rebuilding his emotional resilience.
Fatherhood as a Defining Experience
Imran emphasized how fatherhood has shaped his priorities. After the birth of his daughter, Imara, he consciously stepped back from work to be present for her. “I put her to bed, I would feed her. Even now, I just got back from picking her up from school. It gives me great joy and a sense of purpose and value,” he shared.

“When I was photographed, it sparked media discussions about my wellbeing… I felt deeply ashamed. So I retreated further. It’s been an uphill journey, but these days I’m doing better than ever.”
He added that he now focuses on exercise and nutrition, joking about his workout supplements while embracing his body: “While I’m still a tad jealous of those dudes with superhero muscles… I don’t feel bad about myself.”
A Renewed Drive for Work and Life

The actor credits his renewed focus on personal wellbeing, love, and fatherhood for this resurgence in both personal and professional life.
