Three Members of Gujarat Family Killed in Devastating Ohio Motel Fire

A tragic overnight fire at a motel in Wooster, Ohio, has claimed the lives of three members of a family from Gujarat, leaving relatives and members of the local community in shock.

The victims were identified as Hiteshbhai Suthar, his wife Hinaben Suthar, and their 20-year-old daughter Ishani Suthar. The family originally hailed from Nadiad in Gujarat’s Kheda district and had relocated to the United States approximately two years ago in search of better opportunities.

Authorities said the family had been living at the Econo Lodge motel where Hiteshbhai was employed. Hinaben worked at a nearby property, while Ishani was employed at a McDonald’s restaurant located across the street.

Fire Broke Out in the Early Hours

The blaze erupted at around 1:30 a.m. local time and rapidly spread through parts of the motel.

Witnesses reported hearing what sounded like an explosion before flames and thick smoke engulfed sections of the building.

According to local reports, the Suthar family became trapped inside their room as conditions deteriorated. They reportedly contacted the motel’s front desk seeking assistance as the fire intensified.

Emotional Pleas for Help

April Graser, a motel employee who had just started her overnight shift, described the desperate moments that unfolded after the fire began.

According to Graser, another guest alerted her to the emergency and urged her to call emergency services immediately.

She recalled hearing members of the trapped family crying and pleading for help as they struggled to escape the smoke and flames.

The emotional account has highlighted the terrifying circumstances faced by the family during the final moments before firefighters arrived.

Rescue Attempts Unsuccessful

Fire officials said emergency crews were informed while en route that people were trapped inside the building.

Wooster Township Fire Chief Dallas Terrell said firefighters encountered intense conditions upon arrival, with flames already breaking through portions of the roof.

Multiple rescue attempts were launched to reach the room where the family was believed to be trapped. However, the severity of the fire prevented crews from successfully accessing the area in time.

Senior fire officials later confirmed that three occupants of the motel had died in the incident.

Massive Emergency Response

The fire quickly escalated into a five-alarm emergency.

Authorities said approximately 15 fire departments and around 70 firefighters responded to the scene to contain the blaze.

After an extensive operation, crews were able to bring the fire under control.

Officials confirmed that no other motel guests were killed or seriously injured. One firefighter sustained minor injuries while battling the fire and received medical attention.

As of now, authorities have not announced an official cause.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials are expected to release additional findings once forensic examinations and safety assessments are completed.
